Zohar Made Me Do It (again)

Zohar, in his endeavors to separate my cash from my wallet, directed my attention to an early dated Chrysanthemum award medal. Almost pristine (there is a small scrape on the obverse that does not appear in photos), it is particularly interesting because of the cud (is that the correct word?) that appears at 8:00 on the obverse, at the rim. Also, the makers mark on the reverse. I find it fascinating, because I found the same medal, awarded at a later date, so I was able to compare the strikes.
The later strike has a sharp makers mark. More interesting is that the later strike shows a clear die break where mine shows a cud. Just, interesting. I will have to look for this medal, in the future, just to compare die strikes. Because I am weird. But you all knew that.

I was intrigued to learn of the existence of a Sheffield Crysanthemum Society, and upon my further investigation a National Crysanthemum Society in the UK. Always a fun chase into history with medals.
Perhaps even more interesting was researching Mr. E. Austin, to whom this medal was awarded. It seems he was quite active with flowers, at the time. There probably are a few medals out there, awarded to him.
