This was one of the more comprehensive auctions held with a significant selection of scarce Holy Roman Empire material. I lost on most of my bids yet did win this lot.
1657. Austria. Ferdinand III (1637-1657) Taler. Vienna Mint. DAV-3184. Prachtexemplar / Cabinet piece. Hübsche Patina / Attractive patina. Vorzüglich-FDC / Extremely fine-uncirculated.

Zohar, what exactly is a "cabinet piece?" Is it a coin struck specifically for collectors rather than for circulation?

I believe it refers to circulation pieces set aside by collectors in coin cabinets where the only handling marks come from cabinet friction on the high points over the years.

Really lovely toning on that obverse. I love when the crevices all tone up into these rainbow hues.

Beautiful indeed - I know this one will look even better in hand - wait until you get it B)

I was blown away on 2 pieces I chased and left solid bids on - they def have a good following.

Congratulations! I also participated in the Sincona sale, bid on a modern Swiss error coin (tough country to find errors from). From the prices realized, it looks like I may have won the lot, but I didn't get an official notice from them yet.

Cool coin! I was going to bid on something but was lucky enough that someone with in person eyeballs was able to check it out first. Turns out it would have been a disappointing endeavor...very glad you found something cool! (and grateful for that set of eyeballs).

Just got confirmation from Sincona that I won one lot myself. Hurray!

A beautiful coin. That Swiss error piece is very nice also.

Zohar - Nice coin. I almost bid on it. Now I'm glad I didn't. FWIW, I graded it solid 63.

Good to know Andy and thanks. From images I thought that it was eye appealing at that grade range.
