What would make up the Jerry Rice Rookie Set?

I noticed there is a set request listed for a "Jerry Rice Rookie Set". The five cards that were issued for him in 1986 are his Topps RC and four versions of a card issued by McDonald's that according to Beckett do not have rookie card status.

I thought for a card to be included in a Rookie set, it had to have RC status from Beckett?

I noticed that a while back. It does have to have RC status from Beckett. I'm sure they'll nix it when they actually get around to researching it to put the set online...
  • wouldnt anything from 1986 with Rice on it be considered his rookie? thats my assumption
Back in the hobby after hibernating for many years... Collector from the overproduced years of 1986+

These words came directly to me, via email, when I inquired about determination of a current players rookie cards for the creation of a new set...

"For the determination of what cards are being used in a rookie set is ; all cards on beckett that come up as an official rookie card usually you can do a search. We also use the official rookie encyclopedia book and make sure to include all those cards for the player as well. It doesn’t matter if an RC is on the actual card or not, we use all Official Rookie Cards unless a print run of 1-3."

Beckett last published the Rookie Encyclopedia in 2014. I do not have a copy. If someone does, do they list more than 1 Jerry Rice card in there as RC... because Beckett Online certainly does not?

Are they including the McDonald's issues now?
