Shipping time..update

Ebay auction paid for Thursday night at 7:45 pm. Got email today (Saturday morning) "no tracking where are they?". It's been ONE business day (auction states shipping within 5 business days). How quick did they expect delivery? I usually ship within 3 business days and planned on shipping these on Monday which is 2 business days. Am I out of line thinking this is a little nit-picky?

Sounds like your buyer is use to 1 day handling. A lot of sellers that sell cards on eBay ship with 1 day handling
and allow 30 days for returns. If the seller meets this standard they receive 20% off final value fees.

I wouldn't say your buyer is not nit-picky but when you take 3 to 5 days to ship that means the item takes 5 to 7
days to arrive after payment most buyer are receiving there cards 3 to 4 day on avg.

I ship next day, usually drop the item off on the way to work. I also add a note to the buyer when I generate the label so they know when I will ship.

It's more than nit-picky on the buyers part. It's out of line. Your auction states what the shipping times are. If they can't live with those terms then they shouldn't have bid.

Some buyers expectation are just crazy. 2-3 business days is reasonable.

I do think they are being somewhat impatient. That being said, I think you can tell a lot about buyers expectations by how quickly they pay and best to try manage them early. If someone pays within an hour or two of auction end I think they are going to expect fast shipment regardless of what your handling time states. I had someone pay for an expensive item within 5 minutes of auction ending so I felt pressure to get the item shipped the next morning and i did where as if someone takes a day or two to pay I feel more leeway. If I can't ship next day I usually send a quick note to let them know I appreciate the quick payment and when to expect shipment. You can never go wrong with good communication.

I think most people think Saturday is a business day when it comes to shipping. I think they are nit picking too
but waiting until Monday on a paid auction on Thursday would annoy me too. Why wait until Monday to ship?

Had a guy take 10 days to pay (Yes, I did have to send a reminder after 7 days), then two days later asks if they had been shipped yet.

I generally ship next business day, but sometimes life is going on and it takes until the 2nd business day.

Well, I should have seen it coming. Now buyer is stating item was not received. He bought 20 packs of 2009 Panini basketball and a single pack with a Curry rookie card showing thru the back of the pack. I packaged the Curry pack in a separate sleeve and the other 20 packs between cardboard and bubble wrap. Now he is claiming the Curry pack was not in the shipment. Now What??

So, because I shipped something in 2 business days I get penalized and have a buyer lie and say he didn't receive an item?

Not what I'm saying at all. Two separate issues. You shipped in three postal days, which is too slow in my opinion, but in no way means you deserve to be defrauded. Is it possible that he missed the other pack among the packing materials and accidentally tossed it? Just asking, even though it does seem extremely unlikely.
  • only thing to do is have the buyer return the items

He says he already opened the packs.
  • he's SOL and eBay and paypal will side with you because he's destroyed the item you sold him

I cannot believe people are giving you trouble for your handling time.

Three business days is not only standard, but more than acceptable.

Five business days is fine, too, as long as it is listed.

First off, ask him if he still has the box/packaging and to check it for the loose single pack. If you packaged it the way you described it's very likely he pulled out the big bubble wrapped group from the box and assumed everything would be in that. The separate sleeve was probably mixed in with whatever else you used for packaging and discarded with all the packaging. It should have been packed inside the bubble wrapped group along with the rest of the packs. Hopefully he still has the packaging and can check, otherwise you will need to be working something out with the buyer.
  • A problem buyer will be just that no matter what. It's not an issue that you shipped after 2 days it's an issue that the buyer is an issue.

That said, a quicker turnaround time would certainly be appreciated but most reasonable buyers are flexible as are reasonable sellers.

It's the cost of doing business, don't get too upset and move forward and on.

I am strictly a buyer on eBay. I am amazed at how many sellers ship so quickly these days, and it may create some unreasonable expectations for other sellers. But I do not personally follow up with a seller unless I have not received the item, a tracking notice, or communication within 7 days of payment. I normally pay within an hour of winning an auction, unless it is a late evening snipe. Then, the next morning

I'm only 48, and I hate that what I'm about to say is going to make me sound like a crusty old man, but back in the day everything we ordered said please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. What would today's buyers have done back then? And please don't tell me that now it's the internet age or whatever, because its still the same post office handling items as it was back then. Besides being lazy, today's youth (under 35) feel entitled to everything, and have unrealistic expectations. Obviously there are exceptions, but I haven't met many.
  • should we go back to 6 weeks delivery on ebay?

I just had a buyer open a claim against me for 2 boxes I sold him 3 months ago of the same product that the OP sold. I wonder if it is the same buyer. Very strange.
