POLL: Should Pete Rose be allowed into the HOF?

Comments

  • He should be in the HOF .......He was on of the best players in baseball history...............

Game 4 of the World Series showed how much respect the fan's and other players still have for him .............
    Ref's many

    Looking for Marino, Ripken Auto's,Gu & Rc's

  • you *** damn right he belongs there...this is a conspiracy I say, A CONSPIRACY!!! hehe
  • to get into the hall you should be judged on how you performed ON the field not what you did off..Ty Cobb was just a terrible person off the field and he is in..Pete Rose belongs in the Hall
  • Pete Rose deserves to be in the hall, plain and simple. I do not condone his lifestyle off the field but love him or hate him the man played every game like it was his last. He has numerous records that will most likely never be broken. This shows how screwed up society is, you can break into someones home and murder a child and be on the street in 10 years but you bet a few hundred bucks on a GAME and your satan? Its ok to get caught with drugs and crack ho's but dont bet a longshot at the horsetrack, cmon! There was no finer moment when Rose drew a walk and ran wide open to first base , you'll never see Bonds or Arod do that! Just my two cents.
  • he most certianly deserves to be in, anyone who says otherwise is a retarded monkey...he was one of the greatest of all time, its sad and ridiculous that he has yet to be inducted into the HOF.
  • Maybe? Maybe Not!

Yes, he has the numbers to be in the Hall of Fame, but what he did was wrong. He needs to be a man a own up to what he did wrong.

Think of it this way. If he was the CEO of company and did what he did it would be concidered insider trading? Fired, Heavy Fines and a very long jail time.

If he was in the military, it would have been treason. Dead by firing squad.

He was wrong and NO he should not be in the Hall of Fame.

Wants: Joey Harrington, Brian Urlacher, Anthony Thomas, Donte Stallworth, Antwaan Randle El, Travis Stephens, Marqiuse Walker, Clinton Portis, Roy Willams, Antonio Bryant, Javan Walker
  • I would have to say no...he was a great player but part of his ON the field accusations was betting on his own team while he was managing them
Equate it with point shaving in basketball...look at what happens to players caught doing that...they are banned and sometimes go to jail
Pete agreed to the punishment by MLB baseball...If he didn't committ something considered very wrong would he have agreed to that punishment
    I don't think so

notice that when he had the batting adverage of .408 and .395 he never struk out the whole season.....he is also 3rd on the all time BA list and the last season he played he hit .382 and also had 200 hit seasons 4 different times
lookin for autos in baseball and basketball

and cards from 01 studio private signings(BB) 96 ex (bkb) and 96 chrome (bkb)
  • I think he should be, and furthermore, I think it's an embarassment to MLB that they included him in the 30 greatest moments festivities but continue to keep him out of the hall. F'ing hypocrites.
  • of course, great player!! one of the greatest, that is terrible...i mean i gamble, he bet sports and horse racing....I do those things, and if i was in his shoes, a great player, I would definately be crushed, because the HOF is about how you perform on the field, not whether you have sexual affairs, and gamble OUTSIDE of the on-field play....That is definately one thing I will always hold against baseball

Absolutely without a doubt he SHOULD be in the Hall Of Fame. He should be in as a player only and not as a manager since managing is where the problem is.

How many times did Steve Howe and Darryl Strawberry get lifetime suspension's? I think Steve Howe had about 7 lifetime suspensions for drugs and Darryl Strawberry three or four. Why are their lifetime suspensions forgiven and given several chances.?

Once again, he SHOULD BE in the Hall Of Fame.

  • We both feel that Pete Rose should be in the HOF.He was one of the greatest ball players of all time & for them to treat him the way they have is shameful.Yes,he did something wrong but so have many other players who are in the HOF.He has more than paid for his mistakes;so they should right the wrong & put him in.
With the recent stats showing baseball has lost almost 50% of its fan base over the last 10 years;they need to be taking a real serious look at themselves as owners/players/managers & what they are doing to this great game.
We agree with Ryan on the issue of baseball being hypocrites including him in the most memorable moments ceremony yet not letting him on a ball field otherwise.Maybe,by them allowing Pete to be there is the beginning of something positive towards this great sport but we won't believe it until we see it happen. There is always HOPE! We just hope they fix the wrongs before they ruin the game forever.

  • I think he should be allowed in as long as he apologizes to MLB and it's fans admitting his wrong doing of betting on the game he played in.

I'm surprised how easily people are willing to overlook Rose's betting on baseball. All the other transgressions mentioned (betting on horses, drug abuse, etc.) do NOT put the integrity of the game in question!

For decades, every single MLB player has known that betting on baseball is equal to the death penalty. Major League Rule 21(d) says "Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible." It's posted in every MLB clubhouse.

I won't rehash the evidence that Rose bet on Reds games (go here if you want to check it out) and since Rose agreed to be banned it's safe to assume he did it.

You cannot allow the integrity of baseball to be put in doubt by people betting on games. Don't be fooled that it's OK as long as you bet on your team to win, either. What about the days Rose didn't bet on the Reds? What does that tell the bookie about that game? It was gambling on games that nearly ruined baseball in 1919, and that's why baseball has taken such a strong stand against it ever since. Pete surely knew what the risk was if he got caught.

Rose was a great player on the field, no question. Regardless, he committed the ultimate offense. He knew the rules, he knew the penalty, and he did it anyway. I can't shed a single tear about it. He should never be admitted to the HOF.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • kranky, you make some good points. I've wavered on the HOF issue, but what really burns me up is MLB is happy to use him for events like the 30 greatest moments but they make him the pariah when it comes to the HOF. They need to decide that they want him to be a part of all the game's history, or they don't want him at all. If baseball is trying to put forth a 'zero tolerance' policy on betting, they're not doing a very god job by celebrating Rose during game 4 of the World Series. But then again, screwing up is what MLB does best these days.
