Coins of Isabel II

Hello all. Finding this forum in 2012 and corresponding with several of you both in forum and beyond has greatly increased my enjoyment of numismatics. Being able to not only intensively study, but also discuss numismatics in all its facets with other like minded folks is a lot of fun! image

Despite this, I don’t get to post as often as I might like and up to this point have seldom posted coins of my own collection. With thanks to all the folks that helped me along the way I would like to finally share with you my personal collection within its historical context.

Coins of Isabel 2 provides a review of the many different series of coinage issued during the reign of Queen Isabel II of Spain (1833-1868).

Hopefully this will convey the collecting passion behind my forum avatar. image

I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for sharing. I am a Philippines expat and I have an 1868 Filipinas Queen Isabela II 4 Peso gold coin that came into my possession via my father (who along with his siblings got one each from my grandmother).

I always enjoy viewing the numismatica of Isabel II. I think I have posted a few, in the past.

A nicely designed and very informative site. With the exception of one 20 Reales, my Spanish crowns are from the Empire period. Now I know why finding that one example was so difficult.

Thank you all for your replies. I'll have to pester you folks in future for pictures of your Isabels! image

I encourage anyone with interest in or questions about coins or medals of Isabel II to contact me or post questions to the forum. Having benefitted so much from the forum, it would feel great to be able to give back by helping others out.

Hi Pat, it's a super site. Some absolutely stunning coins!

I have but one little tiny Isabel II coin that I purchased about 3 years ago because I liked her toning. Nothing even close to what you have collected. image

Thank you for your kind words brg. And thank you for posting an Isabel! A Barcelona issue with plenty of color!

Lord M, What led me to focus on Isabel II? Well when I moved to world coins I was attracted to the many beautiful designs on coins of Europe and began studying the history surrounding them. I received some excellent guidance from Zohar and others and began trying a little of everything. At some point in my travels I lighted upon an 1859 Seville 100 reales coin (my avatar). When I held that coin in my hand and began researching its history...that was it. I have been researching and collecting Isabel II since then and have loved every moment of it!

Thanks coffeyce and everyone else for your supportive comments. image
