Mexico 50 Pesos 1944

I like the design on this coin for two reasons:

I climbed the volcano on the right of the obverse (Mt. Popocatépetl).

A coin like this one was shown in the 1950 Rex Allen film "Under Mexicali Stars".

One of my favorite designs from Mexico, as well. One of these days I'll add the 1921 Dos Pesos to my collection.

Very nice! That is the hard one now, since it became active.

I have climbed Popo as well, in 1993 just before it started getting active.

I also have been to the top of Ixtaccihuatl, and on that one I carried a small gold and silver libertad to the summit for good luck.

I had to turn back on Orizaba, so I did not get the national high point, but I was quite happy to get this iconic pair of mountains on my list.

Seriously, it's a very satisfying hunk of gold to hold in your hand.

One of my first big chunks of gold. I like them a lot. Some are pretty scarce, too.

Can you imagine this in the 1.2 Ounce size?

Love the 50s, my biggest hunk of gold by far.
