Not a rare date, but an example of condition rarity. I believe our hosts have graded less than 15-20 (if that) in this type in 68. I would have to check, but I am unaware of any dates graded 69- I suppose anything is possible.

Wow! That makes my example of this date and mint mark in PCGS MS68 look like a steal. I bought one of the 5 graded MS68 about 2-3 months ago for $250. You may remember I posted it here. image

The two linked by Zohar sold for ~$750 and ~$700...which is beyond anything I would have expected by a factor of 2.

Wow, I would have expected $300 or less.

I was expecting them to go in the 250 dollar range since MS67s of the common dates go in the 100-150 range normally. Up until a few months ago there were only a few MS68s graded for the type, so I expected them to go for a fair bit more than the 67s.

I'm not sure if toning can fully explain the high prices.

Heritage probably got hold of a roll of these and there were a few 67s in there. They let 2-3 go each week. I guess that the underbidders that did not pursue Brandon's had to pay more the second time around.
