Cool, I do love the wood grain look from improperly mixed alloys, especially on copper.

How to tell an incorrect alloy on the German piece? In the pictures, it doesn't look quite as brassy golden color as a normal one would, I suppose, and there's that unusual toning, but otherwise, I wouldn't have noticed. Is it more silvery color than brassy color?

The stripes are a dead giveaway to improper alloy mix

Am very curious about that improper mix.
There are a lot of Canadian Large cents from 1905 to 1920 which have that peculiar wood grain. some have it very strong, others not so bold.
knowing little about metal properties. Logic would let me think / assume there should be more than one piece of a batch having the same wood grain look.
When the alloy was mixed, then IMO, the whole batch should be alike with the wood grain look? perhaps I am wrong?
I know, the Canadian coins are plentiful.
I have never seen this on a German Coin, either war time or post war. But, perhaps I never recognized it as what it is.?
Today is the first day of the rest of my life

The composition of this coin should be brass clad steel. Is it magnetic?
