    Wow, thanks for the info. I was under the impression that this was an $8 to $10k card. Those VCP numbers surprise me.

    That card is a mess. Who cares if it's centered if it looks that terrible.

    I'm all for centered cards but the eye appeal on that card is as bad is it gets.

    The shame is...with that centering, it would've been a PSA 9 or even 10 right out of the pack....

    I kind of like it but I love centering. It certainly has a lot of character!


    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

    It looks like it went through the wash a few times. I think I'd rather have an OC PSA 1 with a cleaner surface.

    Edited to add: Maybe they fished this card out of the crates of '52s that Sy sank in the early 60s. image

    I would take this card over that miscut SGC 50 Gibson card in the other thread.

    If only we knew the entire history of that card from the day it was opened by a kid in 1952.
    Perhaps put directly into the spokes of his bike, then lost to a card flipping contest, then put in someone's jeans back pocket where mom washed the jeans in it with the card in it. Then in somebody's wallet for years.

    I cant imagine paying $5,000 for it, but then again, at least its all still there.

    That should really be in an authentic holder.

    Yeah...the idea that someone would rather have this than a PSA 9 Seaver rookie for the same money boggles my mind.

    I would be interested in knowing what it smells like. An old book? Coffee?

    I like it, but with the numbers charrigan shared I would pass if I had the extra money to buy. $3500 to $4000 I'd be on it, and a proud owner.

    It must've been a rough journey for that Mantle, and I've also briefly wondered about the paths our cards might take to get into our collections.

    That PSA 1 would be like the Keith Richards of the '52 Mick world -- it's been through hell, but ohhhh, the stories it could tell!

    Personally, I'd have to see a back scan before I determine if it's a piece of crap or not.

    I would probably pass on it for that price, but in a different circumstance (lower price) I would absolutely love to own that card.

    I don't know what it is about high profile cards that are completely beat up but I love them. Even like a Michael Jordan rc, I own one in a BGS 7 but for some odd reason I'd like to also own one that's in poor condition and maybe In an authentic case. Maybe it's because it gives the card more character, and the fact that I'm on a limited budget lol.

    Beauty is in the eye of the (be)holder, but at the end of the day it's still a Mantle RC with a lot of history and a great story to tell..
