Interesting selection, lovely coins. Fun to see a very nice 25 peso (one of my all time favorites) and 1935 "rocking horse" included along with the LBJ Peace $.

Love it! Excellent box! Many likes. The toning on St. Paul's obverse is gorgeous and perfectly follows you down the walkway making it 3D-ish. Of course the proof 10 Zloty is lovely... I think we've covered that in enough threads image. Never seen those Hudson Fulton pieces. I'll have to read up about them. I'm a sucker for non-round types, and I love silver types, and I love the song "Up On Cripple Creek" - so the Slusher Lesher gets extra bonus points imageimage

But the proof '35 crown is my favorite type of all time (I have two in MS, still saving for a nice PR) so that just takes the cake!!!!!!!

Great Box of 20...............Love the Idea and the coins ...............Interesting Presentation , wonderful post. Congrats.
  • Weiss, that is a wonderful selection! I like so many. Great job with your display.

I'll agree with LockNESS, I'm also enjoy those Leshers, and how coincidental, my friend is looking for that exact coin. Speaking of a Cripple Creek....

You might be able to sing along to those lyrics:

"Up on Cripple Creek she sends me
If I spring a leak she mends me
I don't have to speak, she defends me
A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one"
Persuing choice countermarked coinage on 2 reales.

Enjoyed numismatic conversations with Eric P. Newman, Dave Akers, Jules Reiver, David Davis, Russ Logan, John McCloskey, Kirk Gorman, W. David Perkins...

What Smeagle said! Not only do you have a nice eclectic mix, but your avatar coin makes an admirable "Box of One" all by itself! image

I think darksiders might be able to appreciate some of the pieces better than many lightsiders. The Lesher and the Hudson Fulton pieces, for example, remind me of city view talers and portrait talers.

That's a cool box. I take it you like ships.

One suggestion. Get rid of the Lesher and replace it with a nice Latin American 8 Escudo. Maybe a CAR or Mexican.

Edited to say: Or keep the Lesher and get rid of the fantasy nickel for the 8E.

Very cool! Such a wonderful variety of interesting coins.

The Poland 10Z and the GB crown are particularly appealing.

We're of a like mind; I mentioned I might head in that direction on the US coin forum. Though with a reale instead of escudo. A really nice 18th century Petosi slabbed 8 reale is what I want. And since there are some quasi duplicates in the box (the gold and silver Hudson pieces, the Fulton piece), they might get the ax.

If you want a nice Potosi 8R (bust type), the 1774 is available in choice condition because there was a large hoard discovered in the 70s and they have been recently been trickling into the market. In fact, if you look at the Heritage NYINC Auction under Bolivia, there are two in this upcoming sale, an NGC MS63 and NGC MS64.

Personally, I would prefer a Columnario though, but they are pricey in high grade.

Edited: Another coin you may wish to consider is a Carlos & Johanna 4R. These are the first series of coins struck in the New World and can be beautiful considering they are really medieval coins. Last year, for example, I bought a MS63 (can you believe that!) late series 4R for less than $1900. (Ignore the price and lot number on the Stacks website, it is FUBAR as usual.)

Those C&J 4 Rs are really nifty, and I love that they're domestic. But it's the iconic nature of the 8 R that grabs me.
