Dyrrhachium, Illyria Stater

Hello All,

I had been watching these for quite some time and finally was able to purchase a piece that I liked.

Obverse

Reverse

I would like to eventually add some of the other moneyers from here as well. It's my first Greek silver coin and I am excited to learn more about it!

Z, JCM, LM and NiceCurrency, thanks a lot for the compliments. Coming from you all and knowing what you all collect, those are all tremendous compliments in my book.

Living broke for so long has made me pretty good at being the coin value vulture and picking up pieces after waiting in the corner lurking for the right piece at the right price. Thanks, divorce! lol

I've always liked this series. There's a lot of variety and has the potential to make a nifty survey collection. BTW, several affordable drachms from Apollonia were listed on VCoins. Smaller than your stater but basically of the same design and representing a few of the many varieties.

In any case, Congrats on a nice pickup.

STLNats, thanks for the heads up. I did look at the selection and inquired about at least one coin. I do like these coins a lot and the idea of a survey collection is pretty cool. Not like I need another thing to collect. But the different moneyers and inscriptions could be fun to pick up as good deals come by every so often.

Maybe not with the divorce part, but the living broke part I'd say a number of us have been there and still had the collecting bug, as long as you're enjoying it and having fun that's all that matters image
