Regarding memorabilia/relic cards and the onslought of items being used

Do you think a company will ever go so far as to actually do the unthinkable ? None of the stuff so far really offends, maybe the historic jerseys being cut up. But in addition to the jersey patch cards, bat knob pieces, nascar sheet metal, even hairs of presidents, what if a company went totally ironic and cut up in to little squares some 1951 Mantles and 63 Rose, and other classic cards and used those. That would just be insane.

I'd have to quit the hobby if ever seeing this image I bet UD would have gone that far if hadn't gotten slapped.

Would be funny to get a 63 rose relic card, with a piece of the other guys heads.

If you think about it, you could probably get 6-8 pieces from the average card. You could take a beat up PSA 1 or 2 mid 60's Pete Rose, which might sell for $50 or so and turn it into 8 memorabilia cards for $50 each
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

They already do it with cut autograph cards. I have seen pieces of Nabisco auto.cards (manufacturer-certified) cut out and framed to be new cut auto cards.

Also cards with cut autos that are clearly from yellow HOF postcards.
  • What are 'yellow hall of fame postcards' ? Not thinking you grasped the concept of the inquiry.

I did. Cutting up vintage cards to include as pieces of memorabilia in other cards. Got it. I was elaborating on Nick's point that autographed cards (or postcards) have been cut up to be used in other cards. As far as the yellow bordered HOF postcards that are frequently used for autographs.... I'm too lazy to post a pic, but you must have seen them before. They're pretty iconic within the hobby.

not talking about all that lame, completely lame and worthless boring kmart HOF yellow card or other fantasy HOF boring crap. Am talking about cards dude. The real stuff that people care about. Am sensing you are one of those that is oblivious to what their own brain thinks, and how embarrassing it is to the world, but just not you.

I am thinking you have not grasped the concept of a message board. You know, where you throw something out for comment and people add things to it possibly opening your mind to a new perspective?

Am sensing you are one of those that is oblivious to what other people's brain thinks, and how embarrassing it is to the world, but just not you. (Sux getting zinged with your own comment doesn't it?)

Oh, and KMart doesn't put out the yellow HoF cards, the Baseball HoF does. They look like this:

When you ask for people's opinions, its prolly better to say nothing than try to bash them and show your own naivete (look it up in a dictionary).

OP has been trolling every thread on this board for the past month. Maybe if we ignore him, he'll just go away. After all, he did say "I'd have to quit the hobby" if he ever saw cards being cut for autos, and apparently that's already happening...

whoa,, those are pretty cool. Comments retracted. You're kidding though that a company cuts those up and places the auto on other cards ?

The HoF postcards have been put out for many years and have many variations of stock, font, etc. I am not well-versed in them but I know they are highly collectible with autographed ones going for a fair price. What better way to have an Auto'd HoF collection but have the HoF bust signed.

I don't know which sets in the past have inserted cut autographs from the signed HoF postcards - but I remember seeing it on Ebay as the yellow is pretty unique.

To your original point of chopping up a Rose RC....they could create a chase for the great RC's of the past where you have to collect various pieces inserted into 20XX Series 1 Packs where you build the images of different cards hoping to get that last piece so you can send it in and redeem it. Kind of like the Yaz puzzles you would build on the back of the 1968 Topps AS cards except in this case, when you build the complete image, you redeem it in for that iconic card of the past.

Legendary Cuts releases were famous for the Hall of Fame plaques cut up and used as cut signatures. Here are two examples (not mine).

  • Wow, I don't get that. Kinda like stealing thunder from another company. I now hope a third company chops up Legandary Cuts cards and makes their own using those autos image

This is crazy. It's almost like I knew what I was talking about, and that what my brain thinks shouldn't embarrass me at all. At least not as much as if I drunkenly attacked people on the internet for no reason.

I see what you did there.
  • hee hee he.. Oh Man triple burned.
  • Hey guys , back on this. Just disregard the Dan/Charigan/Zep gigglefest thing. Back to the original intent, there hasn't been any company that cut up a legit real vintage card and used it as 'relics' on modern inserts yet correct ? NOT talking HOF cards, or autographs here, just legit vintage cards.

MTCARDS may have come up with the perfect thing to do. Buy back low grade specimens of the vintage classics and chop'm up in 8ths and use as relics in modern. I was thinkin the higher grade card would be sacriligeous, like cutting up a vintage Cobb jersey, but, low grade vintage cards could work here. So no, would not quit the hobby image

Please no more doof replies. This could actually work. Alfawax said it, if one gets a 'piece' of the 63 Rose that has Pet's face on it image Well that's just more wanted !

Nick and FL, the doof thing not towards you as you guys actually brought up a different angle that I wasn't referring too.
    from
Would modern collectors pursue such a thing as an insert/chopped up/low grade 54 Aaron where his face showed, or the card number was on, or a Bowman Football with a HOFer from the 50's ? hmmmm (Panini no. you don't deserve to do such a thing)

It is not uncommon to make "cuts" of the 1611 1st edition King James book, kinda similar to what you are talking about with cards I think.

    image
  • I will be sure to browse Jonathan Byrds web site so I can also purchase a cut from the actual King James Lebron book from 1611. I will only buy though as long as it has the (right side of pic) Affidavit of Orginalitp and the (left side of pic) 1982 8th grade lined paper.

Not "vintage" but I'm sure they would have thought of that next image

I actually have a 1611 King James page from the book of Ezra. It is framed nicely in our bedroom.

This is the oldest item I own. This is a 1611 King James Bible page from Ezra chapter 3 and 4.

  • I don't know where Ezra is, but you do know you have to go to Cleveland now to get that dude's sig correct ?
