National Group Sub

Sorry for the late notice, but I wanted to offer an option to you guys that aren't attending the National next week. If you would like to take advantage of the PSA specials, I am planning a modern sub (1956-) and will do a vintage if there is enough interest. Also would do a tallboy modern sub if there is enough interest. Cost would be the same as PSA ($6 or $6.50) plus your share of the return shipping, and shipping back to you.


I would need these cards in hand by the next week Wednesday - Thursday, let me know if you have any questions. I've done a few group subs before if you need any references. I promise not to get kicked off the boards until the sub is done image

    Quick update - yes, everything was dropped off yesterday, there are 265 cards in the modern group sub, with 11 participants. I'll send updates as they occur.

    All we can do is wait now! Of course I will be checking 10 times a day to see if it popped, but it won't until the day I don't check. If we get to 50 days, I'll call them, doing it any earlier is a waste of time in my experience.

    OK, here are the results. I have split them up by submitter, but didn't use any names in case you want to remain anonymous image
    I will pm everyone their grades individually as well, in case you don't remember what you sent in. Once you have seen your grades, let me know how much insurance you want on your return shipping, and I will get you a price quote.
    I will be out of town from Thursday - Monday, so the cards should be waiting for me when I get back. I will start return shipping next week.

    According to PSA customer service, the October modern special will remain at $5.75. If that holds true, I do plan on doing another sub at the end of October, you guys are all welcome to participate.

    Overall I am very happy with my sub. This was the first time I have submitted this many cards, so there is abound to be some highlights and lowlights.

    First the lows:
    Took it on the chin on the 86 Rice RC's. I was hoping for 8's across the board. The 6 I had a feeling might come back that way. If it's the one I am thinking of it had a surface issue that dropped it from an 8 or better to the 6.

    Also, tough sledding on the 61 Fleer Basketball. 3 N6's! I will have to remeasure when I get them back. The Elgin Baylor RC is especially painful as any number grade would have made me a profit on the card. I thought it measured up when I compared it to my other 61s. It will probably make another trip to California. I am fairly happy with the number grades as I was able to cross off 1 more card off my registry set list (the Hal Greer which was probably the next most valuable card from that set I submitted along with the Arizin that also N6'd). Even that one is bittersweet as I actually thought it was going to come back an 8. I don't generally over estimate on my expected grades so that one was a surprise.

    Basketball was tough in general as my 57s both came back 5's I was hoping for 6's but I am not surprised with the 5's. The N6's are the only really painful misses from the sub .

    On the bright side plenty of highlights. I sent in 8 cards that I thought had good chances at 10's and 7 of them hit. 2 of the 10's were Steph Curry auto cards for my son. So my 6 year old has his first 10's image !

    I hit an additional two 10's on a couple of 86 Fleer commons that I got in a lot off of eBay. I also got nine 9's that can end up helpin my registry set including a 9 on a Ewing RC and an 8 on a Barkley RC. I am doing 86 Fleer in PSA 9 and 8 so them will both help my sets.

    I subbed a few baseball. Happy with the 7.5 on the 2nd year McCovey. I was expecting a 7. Very happy with the 9 on the Joe Lis 75 mini. Surprised it got the 9 and the Fred Lynn got the 8. I would have bet anything that those would have been graded with the grades reversed.

    Always exciting to get the results of a sub back. Can't wait to have the cards themselves back.

    How did everyone else do? Was everyone happy with their results. I think we avoided the grader of death as I definitely think my portion of the sub was graded fairly. One thing I noticed on mine was a remarkable amount of half grades. I had 9 out of 44 cards with half grades. Over 20% of my sub!

    First I want to thank Mike for putting this together. I really appreciate it! I'm happy with everything overall. I must have missed something on the 79 Wilson and the 83 Gibson. I'd love to lose that PD on the Henderson RC. I wouldn't mind making one of those 3 Henderson 81's a 10 rather than a 9 either! Does anyone have a guess what the Reggie Smith 1979 Topps PSA 10 would sell for? It's a POP 1.

    this was my first sub to PSA and I have to thank Mike for being so good about letting me in on it and being so easy to deal with. For a first time sub most of them graded what I thought with a couple higher and a few head scratchers.
    The bigges head scratchers were the two 1982 Ripkens min size as I pulled these two plus the 9 out of vending boxes about 4 years ago. The 1983 Traded Strawberry that is a 9oc is a scratcher as well.

    I wanted to share some of my submissions.
    This was really what I consider my first sub.
    I'm super stoked on the Gooden and Clemens as I'm putting that set together in PSA 10
    and I'm a huge Yaz fan so happy about the 60 and 62.

    ToadMan, I didn't know you were a Yaz fan. That RC has terrific eye appeal, not plagued by black print dots like most. I have a 62 Yaz at PSA right now with about the same centering and similar corners to yours'. I'm also hoping for a 4+. Very cool cards, thanks for sharing.
