1963 Topps Duke Snider - Toppsvault + my big T3 pickup for the year - I'm a happy collector!

Hi everyone

Usually about once a year I pick up a T3 and this one is one I'm really proud of.

T3 - Turkey Red #26 John McGraw

John played for the Orioles and Giants and then had a great career as manager of the Giants - 10 pennants and 3 WS's.

John Joseph McGraw
Born: April 7, 1873, Truxton, New York
Died: February 25, 1934, New Rochelle, New York
Bats:
Left
Throws:
Right
Played For:
Baltimore Orioles NL (1891-1899), St. Louis Cardinals (1900), Baltimore Orioles AL (1901-1902), New York Giants (1902-1906)
Elected to the Hall of Fame by Veterans Committee: 1937

Biography:
John McGraw was the fiery third baseman of the Baltimore Orioles in the 1890s, but he achieved much more recognition as an innovative, autocratic field manager. In his 31 years at the helm of the New York Giants, Little Napoleon's teams won 10 pennants, finished second 11 times and took home three World Series trophies. He ranks second all-time with 2,840 wins. As a player, he was credited with helping to develop the hit-and-run, the Baltimore chop, the squeeze play and other strategic moves.

A little piece of trivia - John McGraw came out of retirement to manage the National League in the very first major league All-Star Game, July 6, 1933.

Second, I was a Brooklyn fan as a kid and Snider was "my" guy - sorry Mick and Willie fans.

1963 Topps Duke Snider

Two cool items - the first just picked up and the other a while back - feature the 63T Snider.

As you may know, Topps kept a "scrap book" of all Topps cards per year - and since I have the artwork for the card "inset" - it was only natural that I wanted the "page" of the scrap book that featured the Snider card.

Plus, Toppsvault had Beckett encapsule and authenticate the page!

and here's the artwork for the card inset:

Unfortunately, I missed the sale of the final negative for the card.

This has been truly a good day in collecting! image

Awesome pickups! I wanted to get the Rose page from that 63 scrapbook, but it went for well over what I was willing to pay.

More than I could probably pay also.

Lucky this was a later card or I wouldn't be showing this either.

    Thanx!

Congrats Mike, I know how passionate you are about the T3 set and The Duke. That's a hell of a day! I'd love to see more of your Snider items.

Don't want to hijack my own topic, but here's another "vault" item:

2010 Topps National Chicle - Duke Snider

The painted area of the artwork is 4x5” – and IMO a nice portrait of the Duke. Topps got artist Jason Davies to do the portrait.

And as you know, Topps recycled their art/photos a lot.

Here's a card I have to attest to that fact:

Mike ... nice additions. That T3 is one nice looking card. Color looks like it was printed yesterday. Enjoy it.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I thought I would share something about the generosity of CU.

There was a member here - Highend - a NYC detective who was really big into Heritage with his son. He left the hobby - I still miss him.

When I posted that I bought a case one year and got zero autos, I got 2 in the mail - Berra and...

    Thanx Doug.

Some really cool stuff Mike! Congrats on them. I really like the Snider stuff. When I get back into buying again I want to focus on finding nice examples of 52-53 Topps and 50-54 bowman Sniders.

I love the Duke. Nice pickup from the Topps Vault! Even the back of a 63 Topps card is gorgeous, one of my favorite years.
