At braves game tonighg and have a question...

So me and a couple of buddies are down at Turner Field and we were looking at the retired numbers and have a question.
So, Warren Spahn and Eddie Mathews numbers are retired and in red with white outlines. Aaron Neikro and Murphy are retired and in White with red outline. Maddux Glavine Bobby Cox Smoltz and Chipper are also in red with white outline.
What's up with the differences in color of the numbers? At first I thought it was that Spahn and Mathews never played in Atlanta but Mathews did. Then I thought it was that the ones in white didnt end their career in Atlanta. But outside of chipper and Bobby none of the retired number finished in Atlanta.
So what gives?

    I would be interested to know. Spahn and Mathews played in Boston and others did not, maybe that's reason?

    That makes sense. But they have the same number style as the Maddux Glavine crowd

    The Braves have retired eleven numbers in the history of the franchise, including most recently Chipper Jones' number 10 in 2013, John Smoltz's number 29 in 2012, Bobby Cox's number 6 in 2011, Tom Glavine's number 47 in 2010, and Greg Maddux's number 31 in 2009. Additionally, Hank Aaron's 44, Dale Murphy's 3, Phil Niekro's 35, Eddie Matthews' 41, Warren Spahn's 21 and Jackie Robinson's 42, which is retired for all of baseball with the exception of Jackie Robinson Day, have also been retired.[65] The color and design of the retired numbers reflect the uniform design at the time the person was on the team, excluding Robinson.[66]
