<< <i>When I feel it necessary to insure (when I'm shipping to a known coin dealer) I insure for $300 regardless of value because I get a signature no extra cost. Postal thief knows to look at the cost and can figure out the package is worth over $200 ($301 + would cost more and easy to figure with a flat rate box). Hopefully he is waiting for a bigger fish to land. Most important tape the heII out of it. My packages look like they've been dipped in plastic.

Just want to make sure I am reading this correctly, when you insure an item for $300 (or more) USPS will automatically get a signature for that item? (Even if you do not pay for that additional feature?) >>



Insurance over $300 requires a signature from the recipient. I'm guessing that he is saying that he does not have buy signature confirmation in addition to the insurance. >>



Correction! Insurance over $200 requires a signature....but it does cost the same as insuring a package for $300 as their insurance is by the $100 after $50! >>



IIRC the limit for requiring a signature was increased from $200 to $300 early this year, tho I could be in error on that.

I'm sure the policy and procedure manuals are the same, but when I watch the clerks, I can tell you packages are handled differently.There probably many other inconsistencies across the country. This probably contributes to the problem. >>



At mine, the clerk locks it in a drawer at their window.
