Coinage of Pamphylia (Side in particular) - reference works? Several pictures added

I'm getting interested in the ancient coinage of Pamphylia (visited the region as a child, in particular the ruins in Side and surrounding area) and might want to pick up a few pieces (I only have a common copper piece with head of Athena and Pomegranate, SNG 5437). What are good reference books to look into?

As I understand, coinage was made by Greeks as well as some Roman Provincial coinage. Ideally I would like to find a book that covers both but doubt that actually exists.

Well, until you find more detailed reference material, there's always Wildwinds.

    But you probably knew that.

    Neat coin, BTW.

I'm envious of you for having visited that part of the world.

Well, that didn't take long, as my Pamphylia/Side collection now numbers not one but a whopping two pieces with the addition of this Alexander the Great Tetradrachm:

Pamphylia, Side(?) Mint. Lifetime or early posthumous issue. Price 2949

What an interesting idea collecting ancients by mint.
    Have fun Dennis!

This drachm was minted just west of Pamphylia in Kolophon.
    It's a posthumous issue 319-310

Nice Alexander tet. I like the toning.

Those are both very sharp Alexanders. I really like the issue(s) and have the purchase of any nice example in my head for another addition to my ancient collection.

SNG Sammlung Von Aulock Vol. 3 catalogs about 400 coins of Pamphylia, from the earliest autonomous coinage through Roman Provincial issues.

    Edited to add:

The supplemental Volume 4 catalogs about another 30-50 coins, including the Athena/Pomegranate tetradrachm you have.

Charles Davis has some of these (if not the whole set) for sale.

I actually have the main reference, plus the SNG Copenhagen and Price book on Alexander the Great on their way to me from the ANA library. If they prove to be worth it I surely will contemplate buying my own set (but they sure are pricey).

There's also a German/Turkish book I found, which I might be picking up as well (thankfully I'm fluent in German).

I have good memories of visiting the sights back in 1999 and the quite extensive coinage of Side is a great way to collect ancient coins and remember the visit image

Another new purchase, this time from Tom Vossen:

    image

Pamphylia, Side, Domitian, 81-96 AD, AE 19mm (3.96 gm.)
Obv.: ΔΟΜΙΤΙΑΝΟC ΚΑΙCAP, laureate head. Rev.: CIΔ-HTωN, Athena advancing l., with spear and pomegranate; on shoulder, shield; at feet, snake. RPC 1527. Very fine.

I like the wreath mark on your Alexander tet, too.

And your latest has nice patina. I think I might have seen it in my recent VCoins trolling. Might have even wishlisted it, too, to look at later. It is the sort of coin which often gets that second look from me.

I will need to get some kind of Pamphylia piece for my new type set.
