1970's rack pack prices

I'm a bit confused by the market right now. On the one hand, people seem to be bidding up mid to late '70's racks. The perception appears to be that a 1975 rack is worth close to $400 now.
But '73 racks (which, unlike '75s, are actually rare) were selling for $500 when '75s were still around $150-175.
So is the BBCE wrapped '73 rack that's been on eBay at $750 for a couple of years now a good deal? Inquiring minds want to know.

The 73 rack on ebay is in fairly rough shape with splits between sections. I think if the condition were better, it would have likely sold at that price (though price is still on the higher side, imo). That $750 price is also the BIN, but the seller does have a BO option, too.
Edit to add: You'd also have to go back quite a ways (4-5 years) to find 75 racks selling for $150-$175, and even then, I think average price was around $200 if they were in nice shape.
I also think that 75-79 racks were somewhat undervalued back then (I remember thinking that $25 for a 30-year-old 1979 rack, and less than $200 for a 75 rack with as many key cards as are in that set, did seem rather low even at that time), but obviously that gap has been closed, lol..

What kind of impact, do you guys think, would PSA deciding to
authenticate/grade/encapsulate rack packs have on the
pricing of '70s racks?
Do you thinks prices would double? More?? Less? Depend
on the grade?

Has been suggested before, and PSA has said they would never be able to recoup the 6-figure cost of the mold(s) they would need for the slab.
As for rack values, we've been seeing unauthenticated sales of 1975 racks in the $325-$350 range in the last year. But I would certainly think anything certified by BBCE would be worth more than what these riskier racks are getting. And a full rack box (authenticated) has to be a 5-figure item in this market.
Let me go over my data and I'll see what I have for 1970-1976 current market pricing estimates.

1. If basing on content, that averages close to $10 per card. Ridiculous.
2. If basing on unopened rack as a stand alone item, it simply isn't uncommon enough to justify this value. Granted, these don't come up on ebay as frequently as they used to, but even 5 years ago, all '75 unopened was extremely common (much more so than anything earlier or 1976). I doubt the majority of these were ripped, so the packs are out there whether or not they are currently being offered.
Bad buy at this price, IMHO. I acknowledge that 70Topps and Grote know more than I do, but it just doesn't add up to me.
I've ripped more than a few over that time, lol..In fact, I have a bunch of cards at PSA right now from my last 75 rack rip a couple months ago.
I'm sure many have been kept unopened, too, but I think the rise in value for this particular year is due in part to the sharp rise in graded card values for the key cards in this set (along with the unopened market in general).
5 years ago, you could buy a PSA 9 Brett RC AND a PSA 9 Yount RC with 1K and have change left over to buy another 75 rack. Now, 1K won't buy either one of those cards in PSA 9, let alone both.
You have to look at the potential payout, too, when studying why prices may have risen sharper than otherwise expected.
Personally, though, I'm not ready to declare that market value for a common 75 rack is $400, either.

Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest that PSA was anywhere close to
slabbing racks, but considering the effect of the set registry
on prices of other packs, I was wondering, as a hypothetical,
what effect grading and authentication would have on the
current prices.

Totally agree... not to mention you see six of the cards, and they're usually not $10 unless you've got stars showing. I'd shell out $300-325 if in good condition.
