52 card Japanese Wrestling Card Poppage

I have decided to take on the 1974 Yamakatsu and 1976 Yamakatsu sets and hopefully with a little help from Sumo he can help me as I am short on some cards. I just tried to get these in slabs no matter the grade although the one (MK) was a redeemed Winner card that did not receive any special labeling unfortunately. I was really happy with the 1981 Kajiwara (Popy) as I was able to improve my first set and my secondary set. I am hoping to get a Harley Race done before the deadline to pick up a badge for this year and my loggage on that one is 3/10.

    Oh wow! Very nice! Those are some solid grades. This is a tough set as far as condition goes. Anything higher than a 7 is going to be difficult. Hopefully I can help fill in some holes with doubles. Have some coming over from Japan soon.

    Very cool batch of cards.

    I have to think if you present some of these to the wrestlers for signature some will have never seen the cards before or if so they have only seen them on a few occasions.

    It is pretty amazing that some of these cards are 40 years old. Pretty cool if you ask me.

    Other than a Stan Hansen that I sold to a guy and then he subbed, all 52 cards have only been subbed by me so this is new territory. Of course a lot of people may have no interest in some of the Japanese guys, but still it is fun to get cards in slabs that are old by wrestling card standards into slabs for the first time. It is nice to expand a niche market into something a bit larger. I am now closing in on two of the Kajiwara (Popy) sets and started a third set registry to put some of my other extras in. I really do love the photography of the set and the star power is there. There just needs to be more of them in slabs to generate greater interest.

    I went back and was reviewing our old posts on the Yamakatsu sets and we've been working this since the summer of 2012. Great to see the progress and the effort to get this set graded. These cards are very hard to find in Japan and as your sub points out, very difficult to find in high grade. The Kajiwara set has dried up to some extent as well. The unopened packs were all snagged up when this set was discovered over here several months ago.

    I still have a couple that I got from Sumo that still need to be subbed and I have a 1976 Yamakatsu of Harley Race that I need to get done. I should be getting a sub ready as it takes a while for poppage now and I usually always like to have something to look forward to. I still have a couple hundred cards that I would like to have slabbed in the transition pile.

    I did not catch it and they were shipped off on Friday and I should have them in hand tomorrow. I had to send in a ton of requests to be able to add them to my sets so someone is going to be swamped at PSA in the morning, LOL.
