The most recent addition to the MrEureka collection.

Woke up one morning, not collecting New Zealand and not knowing this thing even existed. Next thing I knew, my money was gone and somehow I had another coin. There is no hope for me. image

    Nice coin!

I'd happily take some of your other coins off your hands to make room. image

Very interesting that it's a strike before they even put the proper "KG" (Kruger-Gray) designer initials to the right of the date. Very cool piece!

    Where did you find that?

The piece was auctioned by Baldwin's last week. For those not familiar with New Zealand's coinage, it's worth pointing out that 1933 was the first year for NZ coinage, so this piece is especially important. And at roughly $1500, it seemed like an awful lot of value for the money, even if there's no way to turn a quick profit.

I think that's something of a bargain at that price. We have a full set of NZ decimal trial strikes and they were quite a bit more than what you paid for this. And I'd rank you piece as more important!

Surely that's silver rather than lead.

It's a great piece in either case but it's fantastic luster for lead.

It's probably best classified as "white metal". In any event, it's definitely not silver.
