Talers imaged ATS - Grades added.

ZoharZohar Posts: 6,678 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sent a few in for a combination of imaging, reholdering and grading for a few. Needless to say, following my 6 week USPS MIA package episode, I sent these in Fedex overnight with private insurance... it made it in and I slept well at night. Worth every penny. Will wait for the grades to come in on a couple and will update post with all of them once received.

Austria. ND. Hall Mint. Leopold I (1657-1705) "The Hogmouth" Double Taler. DAV-3249. Lion on shoulder variety. I like this one a lot. NGC MS-62. I thought it had more in it.

Great coins! The portrait of Ferdinand Charles really appeals to me.

When compared to that handsome hogmouth image Seriously, I like that one too.

    Z.,

did you have them reholdered for a uniform look, or to be able to see their edges (or both)?

How much does NGC's imaging service cost? They seem to be doing a much better job compared to a few years ago, when they were simply scanning the coins.

And finally, were you happy with your new grades? Your post is a little secretive on this. image

Dimitri I believe he's waiting for the grades still....I think... or he's pulling an EVP thingy by NOT posting the grades lol

That first double one is magnificent - look at the details and strike let alone surfaces - no wonder you love it - that's a 64 from here easy image

Excellent as usual Zohar. The Olmutz is a nice piece - you typically only see these in the AU range.

Really nice pieces, as usual Zohar. I just can't get over the detail in these coins. You have a world class set!

    Edit:
Not being familiar with the series, it took me a while to find the "lion on shoulder". Made me smile when I did.

Thanks guys. These are all in my set (link in singline) yet a couple are being regraded and will update if there is a change.

All this good work is done when both of them are fast asleep. If there is a will there is a way. Sleep less coin more!

    Grades above.
  • marcmoishmarcmoish Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes agreed that's not a 62 - I'd send it to our hosts cracked - you'd get a 63 or better - really looks 64 from here - like I said I don't blame you for liking it a lot, and whatever it is don't lose too much sleep over a number...
  • ZoharZohar Posts: 6,678 ✭✭✭✭✭
Marc.... thanks. I will keep it in its 62. That funny lion on the shoulder likes it in the old type (smaller) holder!

While grades do matter for valuation purposes, I think in time buying truly nice coins is still the right thing to do. Their final grades may yet to be achieved. (Zohar - we can chat more about this later if you wish.)

EVP - while these do not meet you "standard" for truly nice coins, they do meet mine. I am happy with them.

Sorry - I was unclear. From the images, they seem great to me. My comment was to decry their grades, as if a conservative grade makes a coin less deserving of being cherished by us addicts.

Amazed at the details on the eagles of the Hogmouth and Ferdinand Charles coins. Those engravers were amazing artists.
