1981 Topps Basketball Wax Box Question

Is there anyway to determine what box you have? (East Version, West Version, Midwest Version) I was thinking maybe trying to identify some cards thru the back of the packs. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  • as far as i can remember, there's no way to tell. the pack has both the regional boards, and then the "overall" cards in them, and i am not sure which cards are located on the back of the packs

You can easily tell which ones are the east ones as they will be freezing cold and covered in snowimage

I cant help you discern the west from the midwest, however

Not without opening a pack. I have 4 boxes and will check the codes on the bottom of the box to see if there is any difference. You may bounce it off Steve/BBCE to see if he has an idea. I've purchased from them in the past and have had mixed series so I'm assuming they were not "from a sealed case". This was several years ago.

Anyone else? I'd like to know this answer as well.

    Thanks,

  • im 95% sure there's no way to tell from the packaging. Same thing for 81/82 Topps Hockey, which was released regionally

BBCE will know. They have sold boxes as East/West in past and I doubt they're guessing or taking someone's word for it.
  • Hey guys here is the response from Reed via facebook: The only way, other than watching it come from a fresh case, is to press down on the wrapper of a few packs until you can make out a player on the front or a card number on the back that definitely identifies the region. It takes a bit of work, which is why most everyone sells these as unknown region.
