    every time I've tried calling my ISP's tech support they have said they can't release me and reassign me.

    The old fashioned way is to disconnect the router from the net and wait. How long? Who knows. It could take hours. If this last resort is used, try overnight while you are sleeping and/or out for work


    If you are lucky enough to have some ISP where a LAN cable runs to the router, then lan cables or wifi connect to the computer.... you can try bypassing the router and connecting straight to the net. Then open a CMD window. Then type "ipconfig /release" (no quotes) and then "ipconfig /renew" but that's only if you can get a LAN cable from some device like a modem straight into the computer.... otherwise... unplug and wait.



    there are lots of sites to display your ip address if you don't know how to log into the router to get it.

    you could type "what is my ip address" (no quotes) in google and it will tell you.

    write it down before you unplug so you know if it is changed when you replug.




    edit: your router may have a release / renew capability if you log in and check....
