Holy crap. Yes, I think that is a record. I wonder if that card is destined for a 10 holder.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Wow. That is amazing. The card has slight registration issues, and is not centered well top to bottom. It also has some white pd that could be on the card or on the holder, but still. 10k? That's a jump that defies logic.
As you can see from my card pictured below, the registration on Gretzky rookies can be spot on. This card has been discussed here before but I'll bring it out to show the 9 that just sold isn't a 10.
Corners, edges look typical OPC. No soft corner up top, rather it's the normal cut. People get upset over razor(sheet) OPC, well, here's one that's not, in that way it's fine. It's nowhere near a 10 however and I'd grade it an 8 based on the rather sorry registration issues with the pic of Wayne alone. Somebody got taken on this one if the registration is that bad. Since Probstein has high res. scans, I believe this to be this bad. Take a look at the OPC Gretzky pic in the comment above me then look at this one that just sold. Give me the one shown above every day over this latest sale. As an 8, it's a good Gretzky. It's a weak 9 at best. With zero shot at a 10.
I was going to bid on this Manning Contenders PSA 9 card Manning PSA 9 but it sold for something out of this stratosphere. There had been a BIN for a Manning PSA 9 at $7999 that didn't sell after a month or two. I think the true price for this card is closer to $7000.
It looks like the same buyer bought both the Gretzky and Manning and both had same under bidder at 10k.
Hopefully now that the whale has his Manning PSA 9 some others will come out of the woodwork and be offered by PWCC or Probstein so I can get one.

I was going to bid on this but I forgot to set up a snipe.

Were it not for them, this would have closed at a considerably more modest $8.4K.
If, as the percentage strongly suggest, this bidder was a shill... they cost the winning bidder $1.7K.

Luckily, you didn't. It reeks of shilled bidding.
