I hold Bob Gibson in very high regards so maybe my hobby judgment is off and so I ask.

When I saw the thread title I thought it was a "Who do you want pitching for you in game 7?" proposition. While i would answer Gibson for Game 7, I have to agree with the previous posts that say Ryan, and relatively overwhelmingly so for cardboard following. When it comes to post-War pitching I think Koufax and Ryan are 1-2 in that order for collectibility.

Larger following in the hobby? Ryan, no question.

Better pitcher, all-time? Gibson, no question.

    Better pitcher Gibson IMO
Nolan runs away and hides from Gibson in the hobby. Not close at all. Ryan's got tons of fans.

Strikeouts and no-hitters, but probably not in my top 25 of all time starting pitchers.

I agree with Tim on this one.

Better pitcher? NO DOUBT it's Gibson

Better following by collectors? NO DOUBT it's Ryan.

As far as following in the hobby, this is the number of player sets registered with PSA. As far as higher value resale opportunity it all depends on the grade and card you're talking about but most regular issue Ryan cards will be far easier to sell than Gibson cards other than the 1959.

    Bob Gibson Basic Set (31)
    Bob Gibson Master Set (30)
Bob Gibson Basic Topps Set (22)
Bob Gibson Master Topps Set (15)

    Nolan Ryan Basic Set (81)
    Nolan Ryan Master Set (98)
Nolan Ryan Basic Topps Set (111)
Nolan Ryan Master Topps Set (45)

No offense to Mr Gibson, but it's Nolan by a mile.

Think about it....are we here arguing about Bob Gibson's Milton Bradley RC for months on end? Nope.

A better collectability question would be Koufax or Gibson.

Now this comparison has me surprised, I would've thought for sure Koufax was the king of the hobby when it comes to pitchers.

I don't think i've ever met a Bob Gibson collector...might be a few in St Louis.

'I think i would put Gibson in front of Koufax based on longevity. Koufax was incredible, but it was a small window. Gibson was much more durable and was a stud#1 for so many more years than Koufax...

Ryan ahead of Gibby, for sure. But Gibby has my respect-he was awesome, saw him several times in the 60's, Candlestick Park.

A younger generation can relate to seeing Ryan pitch so I think he will be in the collecting minds for many years.
