Persistence in reviews

Finally, after the 3rd try. PSA bumped my 1964 Rose from 8.5 to 9. I overpaid by 8.5 standards a year ago feeling pretty good about it being a 9....I think it's closer to a 10 then a 9.

One of my all-time favorite cards in the right holder, finally!

Copy and paste into your post. You must upload the image first or just use the IMG code link from Photobucket.

No chance. Really lucky to get a 9 on that with that kind of tilt.

Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine?

Tilt is very minimal and I have seen thousands of cards with a slight tilt get a 9. I don't think I "got lucky". This is a blazer and truly a 9....9.5 reallyimage

  • At what service level did you submit your Rose? Did you send it as a single card every time or with a group of other cards? Anecdotal history suggests that if you send a group say of ten to fifteen cards PSA seems to bump about 20 to 25% if the cards are high end for the grade.

PSA is notoriously lenient on tilt. I seriously doubt the relatively minor tilt here was an issue one way or the other.
  • cardbendercardbender Posts: 1,831 ✭✭
That's a sharp card. Congrats on the bump.
  • I'm surprised that card is in a 9 holder with the tilt. I wouldn't think they would drop that into a MINT holder, but congrats to you on getting the card to bump up.

Tilt is well withing centering guidelines. This card is yet another reason there should be a 9.5.

    GREAT looking card, congratulations!

If there is a tilt, it is very minimal and would not keep it from a 9. Looks like the card is tilted in the holder more than on the card.

Did this cross in he holder or did you crack?

    Thanks,

It was bumped in the holder.

Ok, here's a better scan. The card was a tad tilted in the holder. The tilt is very slight

I am torn on this. What a can of worms it would open if PSA went to the 9.5. How many 10's should be 9.5's? It would certainly be good for business as you'd get reviews on 9's left and right, but I don't think PSA needs the business right now. What would 9.5 be called? Mint plus? And without a doubt if they went to 9.5 all of our 9's would take a huge hit in value

    I think it's a great looking card.

    Slight tilt doesn't detract IMO.

If they ever did 9.5? You could always send it in - holdered - for a bump?

If they were going to implement the 9.5, it should have been done when they instituted half point grades in general. I think it would be ill-advised to start now.

i was wrong about this card. think i recall you posting it before you sent it in for a review. i'd never have thought it would qualify with the registration being a little off and i might have passed up an opportunity were it my own. now i'm compelled to rethink my strategy on some of my own cards.

congrats to you and thanks for the inspiration. image

  • Very nice card indeed! I always consider the 64 to be Rose's real rookie card.

Who said implementing a 9.5 grade is the right thing? On the contrary, I think it would be the wrong thing to do. I thought as much about the half point grade system in general, as not all graders even utilize the option in the first place.

Yes there's enough grey as it is. Suddenly a 9.5 would make it even more gray

And like I said, it would cause the majority of the 9's we already own to drop drastically in price. Bad idea, too many negative consequences

Everyone needs to relax on the 9.5 thing. I will help ease tensions.....they will no doubt add the 9.5 in about 5 years. It's a business. It's a business. It's a business. When all the major high grade vintage has been graded, they will need the 9.5 so that everyone can review their 9's. This will be a free for all with all the 9's already graded. If it makes business sense, they will do it. $$$$$$$$$....no doubt.image
