Crime dog with a strong showing

1985 TCMA Syracuse Chiefs Fred McGriff 1/1 PSA 10 went for $181.49. His first card. Its a 1/1 that probably wont remain a 1/1 especially when collectors see that price and now start to send theirs in for grading. My high bid wasn't even close. He is on a second card in the set pictured with a teammate as well.

    Somebody REALLY wanted that one...

I remember thinking Fred was a sure fire HOFer when I was a kid.

McGriff to me is the quintessential under the radar player that had a HOF career but no one noticed.

493 HR, nearly 2500 hits, and no steroid links. If you take out the proven juicers from all-time HR list (Palmeiro, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, etc.) he is top 20 all-time in HR. He also hit in the postseason, amassing a .323 average of nine postseasons with the Braves.

Not to mention he was classy and treated people with respect. Unfortunately, HOF voters have shown him no respect, usually getting about 20% of the vote.

I thought the same thing when I was a kid. He was Gehrig to David Justice's Ruth in my mind though. I paid like $19 for his 86 Donruss rookie card, I think it booked like $35 or so at the time.

I think he also is one of three men to lead both the AL and NL in homers too.

    +1 for an Allen sighting.

    Good for you.

    I've never seen that card before. I think that's a fair price if it's a 1/1.
