Baltimore anyone?

I just found out that I can probably be in Baltimore on Sunday (I'm doing a fill in job in Maryland on the 8th/9th and now they may want the 11th covered too--what else is a girl to do on a Sunday in MD away from home???). Anyone with plans to be there?

It's been awhile since I've been, do the dealers take credit cards nowadays (it's easy in the smartphone era) and/or checks for big buys? Bullion I imagine is still cash and carry...

Yep, USN retired as of 1 August image. Not ready to be fully retired of course, and now I'm just doing a little bit of fill-in work until I decide what to do more permanently. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) we decided where to live before deciding on employment so I figured on traveling fill-in for awhile, but one of the local hospitals is possibly looking for a part timer which would be nice.

Most dealers will, at the least, be willing to ship your purchases after your check clears.

I was surprised to see that the 2014 Kookaburras were for sale. I picked up a few.

I made it, unfortunately had to pay Ravens game day parking prices image.

I was hoping to see a certain online dealer--they have a coin on their website that I've been eyeballing for at least 3 years, I had my checkbook and was ready to talk on the off chance they had it with them (just not that pretty a picture on their site). Unfortunately they, and about 75% (or more) of the dealers had left already.

I might get some pictures up at some point, but I managed to pick up my kid's creeping crud and had a long drive home and I'm pooped out. I only spent about 2.5 hours there, but it was enough to walk by everyone still set up. I didn't stay more than 10 minutes with any one person (and was too tired to sit and pick through boxes).

Unfortunately I'm still not sure which way I'm jumping with my collecting habits...I stopped by the Civitas table but didn't buy anything (gasp!). I did pick up an art deco medal plus a few Japanese coins from some dealers I remembered from 4 years ago. Said hello to Julian in his usual spot (not that he remembers me, but I remember him!), he always seems to have something Japanese I want too. Petted a cute dog in a stroller. Had a nice Navy chat with a couple of other dudes. Picked up a redundant 1000 yen Olympic coin (I grab them when I find a nice uncleaned one and generally, eventually sell or give them away), bought a few coin tubes, a few stocking stuffer copper rounds and 4 silver 'bullets' as novelty gifts. I did NOT buy a conder token as I don't collect them (the 23 I have are NOT a collection, but there were some nice ones on one table...). Oh, and a roll of 90% dimes from a guy who threw in a granola/cashew nut bar image. It was a nice touch!

Despite my initial impression of 'barren wasteland', and the fact I don't exactly have a focus right now, I did manage to spend a bit of money and have some nice conversations. The checkbook was a good idea. It will be interesting to see if the list of coins that needed upgrading that I was carrying was accurate, or if I just got some duplicates. Oh well, all the coins are neat and it was fun, even with the crud and not enough sleep.

Cathy, I don't know from where you are traveling, but why not try to take the train to Baltimore? I take it from NJ and it is very relaxing. And you can avoid those crazy parking prices by leaving the car at home.

I've learned that Saturday at Baltimore is already a ghost town. I can't even imagine how bad Sunday is!

BTW, I picked up a cased bronze medal given by the governor of Tokyo while I was in Mexico if you are interested in such things. It's fairly modern but cool looking.

Pruebas, I wish I could have done the train image. Unfortunately I was making a spur of the moment side trip from further west in Maryland. I have done the Lynchburg to Baltimore train ride when I picked my car up at the port this summer and it was nice. If I ever get to plan the trip I would love to do the train round trip, I love trains. They don't leave the ground like planes do.

    The medal sounds interesting--any pictures?

Quickie phone picture of the medal I bought:

The ultimate in impulsive buying. I do like the deco medals and the horse medals and the mythology themes, and this hit all those things. I haven't actually BOUGHT a medal like that in about 2 years, but this one jumped out at me. It's a tribute medal for 70 years after the death of Eugene Delacroix by Pierre-Marie Poisson, made for the Societe des Amis de la Medaille Francais (insert appropriate French accent marks..). Anyway, it looked pretty cool so I bought it.
