7070-style Littleton type set album w/pictures and descriptive backing papers. Show your 7070

Picked this up recently, lightly used and with the wheat cent, steel cent, memorial cent, and modern nickel, dime and quarter still in it, do not know how far the previous owner got with the set;
I'll try to fill as much as I can from coins already on hand before starting to buy to fill holes and upgrade certain coins.

The interesting thing about this Littleton version of the Dansco album is that each page has a page of photographic backing showing the coins to collect to fill the spaces through the windows, with descriptive paragraph about the type under the space and a historical retrospective about the major historical events of the eras printed on the reverse of the backing. Has anyone seen this version before? Enthusiastic to start this challenge again, this time with my 5 and 7 year old YNs

Ok as mentioned this album came with 6 coins, we've added a few we already had around and taken a few quick pictures

I missed your original post but thats a very neat album, the cover, and pages look identical to mine but mine does not have those page inserts. Looks like you made lots of progress so far, good luck on the hunt.

Thanks, most of these coins so far, I bought from my local coin shop with lawnmowing money as a kid in the late 1970's.
The album is identical to my other 7070 exept for the backing pages and these:

edit: I suspect this semi-custom album was part of a program, possibly coins-on-approval, by Littleton, as they're known for that, maybe someone has more info..

Love the overall presentation although I've never been a fan of mixing modern proofs with classic circulated coins.

Braddick, I've gone back and forth on that one, at one point moved all the proofs out and only used high grade uncs for the moderns, and then tried it with circulated moderns, seeking ones with lots of wear and dark toning to match the older coins, but I'm ending up preferring a demonstration of a progression in condition and minting technology, in which the oldest coins are the most circulated and "look old", while the intermediate ones are lightly circulated, and if uncs and proofs are available, I use them, and have the clads be mint set coins or proofs. My primary (completed) 7070 has proof seated and barber coins in addition to more modern ones, and I've got a proof morgan, WLH, and merc that I've never gotten around to cracking out of their PCGS holders yet

Added ten coins to the newer book this week, here are two of them. These pics were taken at night under lights, compared to the first pictures in the thread taken in daylight

these had been in flips in a 2x2 box, had them a long time, but I'm finding them more accessable and easily viewable in the album,
and I'm enjoying the process of literally "filling holes" again, this time with the kids, still getting as far as we can without tapping another album or making any new purchases as of yet ..

Here are a couple more coins I've had since I was a child, I still remember saving up my allowance and chore money to get these, and yes, the dealer at my local coin shop gave me a real good "net" price on both, these were the first coins of each type I ever had, long ago replaced with nicer ones, but they still bring back memories of being a YN and the lessons I've learned since. Still having a fun time with filling an album with coins I'd largely forgotten about, with complete disregard for the business and politics of "the market," and the kids are actually paying a little bit of attention to the historical context, and marvelling at how coins used to look and feel. The nice thing about the condition is that they can be handled, jingled with each other, and dropped on the countertops along with modern clad and zinc to hear the differnt ring tones (the other kind of ring tones)

So, what are your memories about getting that A&R quarter? I can imagine that was a real thrill for a kid to see that distinctive design as compared to other seated quarters.

Hi Catbert, those two seated quarters were in a tray of loose raw seated quarters, they were probably "your choice" $7.95 or something back then. They had trays of many early coin types, shield nickels, seated half dimes, dimes, quarters, barber coins, silver dollars, etc. I'd spend an hour or so poring over the different coins, and they were very patient! This was San Jose Coin Shop in the old Town & Country shopping center back in the late 1970's if anybody remembers them. Yes, I was glad to get an A&R quarter!

Here is a silver unc mint set I bought from my local coin shop in 1979, my dad would take me on Saturdays after cutting the yard, and I cut the coins out of the cellophane myself a few days later for my first Capital 20th century type set:

they've been stored in a couple of different albums now, and have become a little golden over the past 34 years.

ElKevvo, yes it appears that Dansco produced it on contract for Littleton, as the gold stamping and black ink match the rest of the printing, I'd like to know the number made..

Wondering if anyone else has seen this Littleton version of the 7070, and invitation to show your raw type set albums that you're collecting the old fashioned way?

bought this coin in 1980

my mom's birth year, the toning has developed from storage in numerous different folders and albums.
Hopefully, the kids will pass it on to their kids, it's a slider and not technically worth very much compared to sentimental value

I am slowly making progress on mine. I'll try and post some photos here today or tomorrow. My goal for the album is to put in the best coin I can buy for 300.00 or so or use one that I already have in my collection.

I managed to get a lightly used 7070 album for $15 a few years ago, didn't realize how popular (and scarce) these were until afterwards. Mine is close to complete too, eventually I'll post some pics.

Juuuust about done with this album, having so much fun collecting raw, might have to start a third 7070 collection.

The nice thing about the album is, get a new one, it's very easy to fill several holes immediately,

if you've collected US coins for any length of time

Wow, that looks just like a Dansco 7070- same font and all.

Kudos to Littleton if they've re-released it. I like the addition of the historical data pages.

My 7070 houses my "replica" collection that I pass around instead of the real deal coins which are PCGS slabbed.

I discovered the Danco 7070 album a decade ago, soon after I started back collecting as an adult. It was a lot of fun to fill, but the last few (the large cents and the seated dollars) were a real challenge. I went on to complete (or nearly complete) a number of additional Dansco albums, including Indian head and Lincoln cents, Liberty, Buffalo and Jefferson nickles, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes, Washington Quarters, Walking Liberty and Franklin Halves, Peace Dollars, U.S. Silver Eagles, and started others.

I next discovered certified coins, which led me to start entering coins in the various registries, including this one and this one.

My favorite is the 7070 type registry here and ATS. My goal is MS/PF63 and up for classic coins, and MS/PF68 for modern coins. I am currently 57.83% complete in my PCGS 7070 set, and 75% complete in my 7070 set ATS, which includes coins from both grading companies.

Sorry I was perusing the archives looking at people's 7070 sets since I've been working on mine for a few years as well. Interestingly, mine is also a Littleton album with the paper insert sheets, but mine is in the current style 3 ring Littleton binder but has the identical coins! On their website they no longer make it, and split it into a 19th Century and 20th Century.

Not quite finished! There are a couple coins that i have slabbed but don't really want to crack out, and a couple more that are in the "A" set that will move to this album once upgraded.

But have taken a break from collecting, just starting to think about it again after a year or so..

Will get book from SDB in the near future and post pics of the current status, in meantime, let's see some other 7070s in progress!

I love the idea of the Littleton Album... it gives some of the history behind the coins. The history is one reason I started collecting years ago. Unfortunately, I have very few of those coins left... but those reside in my album.

I'm still trying to locate a gold page for the 7070 though...

That is a great looking set! I need to do that. I have been working on a MS graded 7070 set, but it is slow going. I could be having fun filling out one of these while I wait for graded coins I like and can afford.
