    There was a $40,000+ offer for it but was turned down. They made only about 6 of those cards. Non-sports can bring in some BIG sales just like sports.

    Trading cards are trading cards. I respect all types of cards and the pool of buyers that might be interested are what drive the prices.


    There are a lot of tech "geeks" that love these type of cards. Guess what many of them make a lot of money so the battle for the cards intensifies based on price.

    Snuff I dont know how you do it! This is incredible, the rarity is totally manufactured (i.e. 1/1, 1/5, 1/25 new card variations) and yet it has such high street cred among pokemon collectors. I am interested in how these 5 were actually distributed.

    This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it was awarded to those who had a winning entry in the Pokémon Card Game Illustration Contest, started in late 1997. The card was never released in English.

    This card is considered to be among the rarest in the world. Only five copies are confirmed to be circulated, while another is in the hands of the Official Pokémon TCG Blog, making a total of six printed.
    The card features the word "Illustrator" at the top instead of "Trainer", and is the only card to do so.
    This card is also the only card with the unique pen symbol in the bottom right corner of the card.
    This is one of only a handful of Japanese promotional cards that feature a double-star rarity.
    This card is commonly known as Pikachu Illustrator, in reference to the Pikachu in the illustration.
    Only four copies of this card have ever been sold.
    This card has sold in the past for $20,000, solidifying it as one of the most valuable Pokémon cards in existence.
    The most recent sale (July 2013) of the Illustrator was in an auction on Yahoo Japan where it sold for just over $10,000.

    Jokes asides, Pokemon is the most popular game in the world and probably the most highly collectible. I happen to think this card will only go up and strictly from an investment perspective, you can't go wrong.

    I bet at least 100 or so are people from this board, so it's not all that impressive when you stop to think about it.
    I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
