Favorite Hockey Set from the 70's???

Just a little poll as I starting to work on my hockey sets after a long layoff and I'm curious want others think.

Just judging Topps sets here. Too difficult for me to choose. I had the #1 Registry sets for 1970 & 1971 Topps at one time. I had a top 1972 set, and I supplied the holder of the top 1973 set with many cards for his set.

Love the All-Star cards from the 1974 set, I very much like having team cards in a set too. My overall ranking would be:

1. 1975, Nice AS Cards, Team Cards, and is 330 cards

2-5. In any order given the day, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974

6. 1973

7. 1977

8. 1978, plain, boring, etc.

9. 1979, too heavily weighted towards The Great One, otherwise would be higher, maybe #6

10. 1976, horrible design IMO

BTW, I voted 1975.

i really like both the 1971-72 and 1972-73 sets. i voted for the latter. i am gaining more of an appreciation for the 1979-80 set as well. btw, least favourite is 1973-74. i just hate the look of those for some reason.

1971-72 OPC is my favorite . LaFleuer, Dionne, Dryden rookies. The best design. 1970-71 is also nice.

I went with 70-71. I was born in '70, it gets the tiebreak over 79-80

I voted for 1971. Its one of my favorites regardless of decade. 1973 Is just ugly to me.

I voted 70/71 but could have gone with 71/72. I like bright colours so no surprise there. My least favourite are the browns - 72/73 and 78/79 with their brown back.

Since 1977-78 was the first year I collected, I have a soft spot for that set. I loved those inserts!

Right now I am leaning towards the 1975-76 set. I'm probably in the same camp as most that the 1979-80 set is nice, but so overhyped.

Best 1970-71 (great trophy cards and so many Orrs!)
Worst 1973-74 (hands down, yikes those green cards are fugly)

Favourite is 74/75 and i feel it is very underrated. You have the rookie card of one of the best d-men to ever play in Potvin plus HOFers Shutt, Gainey and Lanny. The first card of the greatest coach ever in Bowman, first card of the most recognized Canadian sports personality in Cherry and some great stars like Orr, Lafleur, Dryden. Add in how hard the cards are to get centered and it would be one of the more challenging sets to put together in high grade. Drawbacks are the lack stars like Hull, Howe that went to the WHA. It's too bad Mark Howe doesn't have his rookie in this set. The design is butt ugly too lol.

Not a fan of 72/73 or 73/74.

Love 79-80 and the fact it has the last cards of Hull, Howe, Dryden. Only one good rookie in that set but it's a biggie.

I like 78/79 lots of action shots and the design is nice. I think Doug Wilson gets in the hall at some point.

1978-79 as that was the first hockey set I collected when it came out...now, early 80s hockey I was a maniac for that stuff...I remember riding my bike in a blizzard downtown Detroit coming home with a full box of 1982-83 OPC....my first full box purchase!!!! (still have all the cards)

Even though I grew up in the 80's that 71-72 set is just simply the epitome of the 70's. Perfect representation of the era, loaded with HOF rookies helps no doubt.

For design I like the 1971-72 set. It's just screams "70's". Player selection not bad either.

Can't believe you guys hate 73!

The 73 Orr and Tony Esposito cards are two of the best looking cards of the decade!

75? The NYRangers might be the ugliest guys/cards of the decades.

Somebody get a scan of the Phil Esposito trousers card up here, or this thread is worthless

I'm 119/132 on a signed 1971-72 Topps set. It's a Top 3 set of all time for me. Oddly, I like 78-79 a little too.
