Bossy PSA 10

What a steal:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190854262555?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Last two sales - and only sales according to VCP - were $4500 and $7500. Very low pop card and I don't expect many more to come up, there isn't much 70s OPC wax around and the centering on this year is atrocious. For you non hockey fans, Bossy is one of the purest goal scorers to ever play and third all time PPG. Didn't like defense that much though, and retired way to early.

Something tells me the seller should have used a consignor and likely left a few thousand on the table.

Anyone from here buy the card?

  • Back injury caused the early retirement.
  • That's just a little less than the last one sold for. I think the market is waiting to see how many will be produced, err.. I mean graded.
This one looked good to me.

I hear you on that but I would think a card that rarely goes up for sale like this would beat the previous sale and at least near the average. If guys are holding sheets the time to rip cards was after the 7K Probstein sale.

Pure goal scorer is right- he is the NHL leader in most goals/game. The only time he didn't score more than 50 goals in a season was the year he retired when he scored 38 and his back was killing him.
  • I seem to remember a recent sale for around $3400 but I can't find it in ebay's history. I agree that this sale was good value. I believe the 7K sale was a pop 1 or 2 at the time and then jumped to Pop 4 so that may be it for this card but it's too early to tell with the recent increase.

I was outbid but not too worried since I have a very nice 9.

I've often wondered what Bossy's total goal count could have been IF he was able to play another 8-12 years. 900+ ?
  • I'm sure he would have been the all time leading goal scorer or at least close to it. He had 573 in 10 regular seasons.

12 more years would put him at 42, but 8 is completely within reason and the late 80s/early 90s were still run and gun years.

What I'd love to see is what Jagrs numbers would look like if he played in the 80s. He won the scoring title 5 times in the low scoring late 90's, went through 2 lockouts in his prime and spent time in Europe and still put up close to 1700 points. He would easily be number 2 in all time points.

And he's still playing. He looked great in the last game!

I think that card is a solid value based on what and who it is.

As a Flyer fan growing up watching Bossy's entire career, I hated him and respected him at the same time!
