Won this one in the Wago auction Sunday, 1861 A Anhalt Bernburg 2 /12 Silbergroschen, a very scarce proof.

What I don't understand, is why it says 12 einen thaler across the top. What does that mean?
And does sheide münze mean "shady money?"

If you ever get a chance read page 19/20 in Standard Catalog of German Coins, it's titled German Coin Denominations and has two pages of charts of German States coin names and equivalent values. For example who would have ever guessed that 4 Albus was equal to 1/2 Reichsort, or that 1 Kortling was the same as 1/84 Taler which is also 6 Hellerpfennig?

But seriously, that is neat. Thanks for the pagination tip! I enjoy comparing the old silver dirhams and pounds, personally. For example, the Tower Pound (Mercia, King Offa 757 AD) was based on the weight of 12 Arabic silver dirhams! Pretty crazy stuff.
