Picked up an 80's Baseball card that I've been wanting for sometime now.

I haven't really bought much of anything lately due to me being busy with my new position at my job but mostly because I'm also saving up to attend this years National in Chicago but I felt it was time to reward myself with a little treat and so this arrived in the mail today. Obviously nothing big but I'm really happy with this purchase and proud to finally be adding it into my PC.

These cards were selling for around $70 just 4 years ago. Looking on Ebay right now, they're going for north of $125, what's going on?

Thanks fellas. When I first started collecting again about a year and a half ago, I started collecting raw (I wasn't familiar with graded cards/companies at the time) and this was one of the 1st ones I purchased. I sold that raw one a few months ago along with most of my raw card collection and I really loved that card so the next logical choice was to pick up this very affordable card in a 10.

These cards were selling for around $70 just 4 years ago. Looking on Ebay right now, they're going for north of $125, what's going on?

Right now the VCP average is $145. 4SC has been selling this consistently for $179.00 so every time they sell one, that just raises the price on mine a little. Great card and I highly recommend it if your like me and grew up on 80's players. Always looking out for Vintage however.

It just surprising that this card has more than doubled in value since 4 years ago.

One of the iconic cards from the 1980s. I remember picking up 5 1983 topps traded sets back in the day.

Great card, Marc! Always loved the color on this issue.

Rising prices must be due to more people grabbing 1980s iconic cards. There's no reason this should go north of 100.00 other than that reason. Good player but not a HOFer.

when I started collecting as a kid back in 1986 or so, I was a huge Strawberry fan and got every card that I could in those pre-internet days.

Recently bought a 83 traded set so I could have this card. As a bonus got another really cool "XRC" - Julio Franco.

Love the 83 Topps design and definitely an iconic card. I have it paired with the 84 topps Traded Gooden in a display case.

One of the things that helps this card is it is his only rookie card and it has a fantastic design.

I sent in what I thought was a tremendous example and it came back a PSA 8. I just checked the pop report and I am a little surprised there are 201 PSA 10's.

I guess Strawberry still has a lot of fans!

It might be the only Strawberry with an '83 on the flip, but for any 80's collectors, pretty much all of the '84 issues, especially the '84 Donruss will always be considered a RC as well.

Very true Dpeck about this card being very desirable because its his ONLY true rookie so that will always have that going for it. I'm also in agreeance with what Mcadams says as well. I also consider his 1984 Donruss his Rookie, even more so than his 84 Fleer/Topps counterpart if I had to decide over the three.

BTW - If anyone is interested, cincyredlegs has an 84 Donruss PSA 10 he just got back earlier this week and is selling at an incredible price - well below VCP average is anyone is interested - contact him.

Cool card! As someone who's early collecting days spanned from 77-85, any Strawberry RC strikes a chord with me (altough I recall the 84 Topps being the hot card of the day, since kids in our neighborhood typically bought packs, not traded sets).

First traded set I ever got.

But it was due to Ron Kittle, not Strawberry!

My grandfather bought it for me when I was 11.

If any of you know the Los Angeles area, it was in 1983 or early 1984 at a card shop in the shopping center at the corners of Montebello Bl. And Beverly Bl. in Montebello. I used to love that card shop and was always in awe of their 1963 Rose rookie. And that shopping center was outstanding because Thriftys, Woolworths, and the grocery store there(forgot which chain it was) all carried baseball cards!

Strawberry was my childhood idol. I remember that card well. To this day I have always wanted one but kept getting distracted with other cards I've wanted.

Beautiful card! I have a 83 traded set I got from a guy here on the boards to complete a run of 80's sets and I liked it so much I actually bought another traded set and pulled the Strawberry to have graded. Mines only a 9 though. Love the card and the mystique that was behind it growing up in the 80's. right up there with the 84 Goodens, Mattinglys and the 86 Donruss Canseco. One of the true iconic cards of an era. Beautiful!

Mark as a Mets Fanatic I am very happy for you. In fact I picked up a card a few months ago from the 1980's that I always wanted. It was a 1984 Donruss Darryl Strawberry Rookie Card. For years I've searched for one and I finally got it in a trade at a Trade Day at a local sports card shop that I frequent. It was worth the 28 year wait!

Great card Foo. My personal favorite of his. Great colors on it and it really stands out in the PSA holder. The 1984 Donruss RC is a close second for me, but this one still holds up. Congrats!!

Guys, you gotta remember that this card is just making the natural rise back to its 1991 Beckett High Value

Thank you again everyone for taking a moment to write and leaving the positive comments. Its not like when I was a kid and I could show my binder full of cards to my friends when I saw them on the weekends. This is the only place today where I can show something off when I get excited about a new pick up and so its great to hear the warm reception chalked up with great stories/memories.
