Conservative Grade for this Mantle?

OK a little back story.

Over on the Blowout Forums we have a member who's newborn son (Connor) is suffering from SMA 1. A fatal disease. The mother and father have been at the Hospital going on 6 weeks now and just got home nursing set up and soon to have hospice set up.

So I won a Topps 5 Star Russell Wilson autograph and offered it for sale and a generous member bought it and I donated the money to Connor's family.

So another member contacts me and asks if I will sell some cards for him because he says I am more respected at Blowout and can probably get more money for them.

Well the box arrives yesterday and the card below was one of the 1st I see. I want to see what people think this would grade as I would like to put this in the description.

I am thinking PSA 2.5? Though I really have no clue.

Can you give me your best estimate as to what you think this would grade?

    2.5 is pretty generous IMO

    Nice gesture however

It won't get a 2.5 due to centering. Probably a straight 2, as they grade Mantle pretty tough. An outside shot at a 3, but I'd get ready for a 2. Is that paper loss on the back next to "3B"?
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

I don't think so. I am scanning these quick and will take it out of the holder and check. I will just tell people it is in the PSA 2 range.

Maybe I can piggyback on a sub just to get it slabbed.

It's a great gesture by the donator.

If this comment is true, that's pretty messed up. Why would Mantle be subject to different grading standards than anyone else?

I'm just speaking from experience and the grades posted by other and their comments. I just think since any Mantle card is valuable, they give them a thorough going-over. I'm sending in a '66 Mantle right now that is a borderline 7, but I'd be happy with a 6. We'll see how this pans out in 10 business days... image

I don't think PSA says, "hey here's a Mantle, let's be tough" it's more like, "red flag, here's a Mantle, let's spend a little extra time and make sure we get this right."

I agree. They even state that they do this on more valuable cards. The end result is that they get it right and their is no overgrading that sometimes happens with commons.

Thanks, you said that a lot better than I tried to. image
