Return Package: "...recipient name matches a denied party/entity..."

comrades, this is a first for me.

A buyer through the 'bay successfully bid on a Proof ASE. Before the auction ended I was emailed by this person if I was willing to send to the UK, postage adjusted. I said OK. (Probably my first mistake.) Payment was fast and confirmed. Item was sent via USPS and was returned to me with two form letters and highlighted in yellow was item #10. "Sender or recipient name matches a denied party/entity who may not send or receive exports. RECIPIENT AND SENDER (AND SENDER was penned in) NAME MUST BE IN ENGLISH...AND ADDRESS (FIRST AND LAST NAME)." This notice is from the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

The person is named after a well known Prophet. My name isn't exactly a common American name. image

He has over a 100 feedbacks. No problems. And seems to buy a lot of proof ASE's.

Buried in the letter's verbiage is an un-highlighted paragraph that states I MAY be eligible for a refund.

Suggestions?

    1) That individual should only purchase coins locally.

    2) Issue a refund minus any shipping and other costs you incurred.

    3) Be glad that the UK government errs in the direction of public safety.

    4) Your name may be in a database now.

    I would issue a refund of the full selling price as I don't know why you would make the buyer pay for the postage unless that was stipulated in the listing.

    Send a scan of what you got sent back to you to the buyer, asking for a bit of patience while you look into the problem, then contact the Office of Foreign Assets Control and ask them to decipher. Perhaps you could add business names "Joe Smith Enterprises" to one address and/or the other. I'd bet that a repeated attempt to send the same package would work, but I suppose there's the chance that the same form letters will be delivered back to you next time by drone.

    Paypal seller protection only covers an item shipped to the address shown on the paypal details page. Best for a seller receiving a request to ship to a different address to have the buyer update his paypal account shipping address and not ship until requested address shows up on paypal details page.

    What derryb said. I'm only shipping it to an address that shows as confirmed on the Paypal invoice. If they want to have it sent somewhere else, they need to update/re-confirm a new address.
