PCGS use of oversized holders

I applaud PCGS for bringing these holders into the world arena, but I have to wonder why they are being used if the coin fits in a regular holder. Here is a "regular" sized taler, typically more or less 44mm, that we know fits in a traditional size slab. This just seems like overkill:

Very true
I like and sometimes need the 5 coin holder, but PCGS introduced it exclusively for the gold eagles sets, and I don't know if it's still in production.
When the Q&A was still functioning, DH had replied to a member that the R&D and tests before a new holder is introduced is in the millions.
Sometimes I wonder if TPGs are aware of how "anal" most collectors are when it comes to the presentation and storage of our coins.

I doubt that PCGS just put it in that holder unless it was requested and the extra fee paid? They don't do it for free you know
