Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark game used cleats question

I've been working on a trade to add two pair of game used Indianapolis Colts cleats to my collection. These would be the first game used items I've ever bought. The seller has a photo with Clark wearing the shoes, but said he couldn't find the Wayne picture he once had. He said they were purchased directly from the Colts in a charity auction. I'm familiar with the signatures and they both look good to me.

Here are Reggie cleats. I've been checking yahoo images but can't seem to find a match. He claims they are from the 2005 season. What is the best route moving forward? If I get them will PSA or JSA be able to authenticate they were game used? Any chance either is legit?

Thanks!

  • The seller came up with this photo of Reggie Wayne. This is from the 2004 season. It's hard to tell because they are wrapped up. Any chance these are the same?

Both photos only seem to prove the style is the same. I don't think that proves they were actually game worn. That doesn't mean they aren't though.

PSA only authenticates bats, JSA does no equipment. You will have to find another resource if you want that.

Personally, if the signatures look good to you, I feel like while you have no provenance, its likely that the items themselves are real. Are you comfortable buying/owning them in that situation? Thats what matters most.

  • I guess that's why I'm struggling with the whole thing. I've never had anything game used before and my experience has solely been with autographs. Most of the game used items I've come across has some sort of authentication from the team. He did offer to refund me if they were determined to be not genuine, but it doesn't sound like either JSA or PSA are an option.

I'm not sure there is much of a market for fake Reggie Wayne cleats to be honest with you...If it were a jersey or helmet, I'd be a little more diligent in my search, but for cleats, I think there may have to be a slight leap of faith in this instance.

  • Reggie has a huge following here in Indy. It's a good amount of money involved so I wanted to cover all bases. I figured I would ask the boards for their opinions before I complete the deal.

The leading TPA for game used items is MEARS out of the Milwaukee area. Their website I believe is www.mearsonline.com. Contact them and ask them what they would charge to authenicate them....
