Newp ... chasing Zohar and EVP

My very own Augsburg Taler ... not that rare, but in a nice state of preservation.

I'm pretty sure I haven't caught Talermania, but what's not to like about these really old huge coins?

Very nice, but chasing those two is going to be a very expensive hobby I believe. image

Don't chase us. We have a very big head start. In any case, I suggest you do it to please yourself. This is a great hobby, but it's a marathon not sprint.

I like it. Original pieces of this city view type are quite desirable. I think the Chinese collectors like them a lot a this type has quite a few forgeries on eBay.
    Congrats.

I like it too - yup what's not to like.

    Is it graded?

I like the subtle luster ...

    Thanks guys.

    Is it graded?

Yes, graded by our hosts. The pic is one they took for Coinfacts ... my photography skills remain undeveloped. Like all of my coins, this one looks better in hand image

Take the "Chasing" with a grain of salt. My focus will continue to be my type set, and I'm more inclined to buy minors than crown sized coins. But, I think I may add the occasional early Taler.

Once it hits you, talermania is tough to shake off. image I like your new Augsburg piece.

I have to agree with EVP - its definitely a marathon rather than a spint.....for me it just happens to take many detours and side trips during the journey.

its definitely a marathon rather than a spint

I will take it a step forward and remove another letter to say its a definite marathon and a slow spit

Hey you too proud Paul - that MS65 grade is a WOW!

You also have a rather time and painstaking staged registry set put together - very nice achievement so far and yummy great pieces - I recommend everyone take a look at this collection so far.

    Paul - is your Augsburg a 65?

    Edited to add:

Holy cr@p! It is a 65! How'd I let this slip by me? I knew there was a reason I liked it so much...

A 65 is quite an achievement - wow!

Just to reiterate something that Zohar posted earlier - I am weary about this particular issue if it is raw. Several years ago, there was a flood of fake talers coming up on eBay from Chinese sellers and this particular issue was the most commonly found. I quit reporting to eBay after about 20 distinct auctions. If memory serves correctly, approx 7 or 8 out of every 10 of the fake talers was the Augsburg design. The scary thing is that they looked damn good. I wish I would have stored away some of the screen prints from the auctions.
