I understand your frustration, but the NBA is hardly ready to fold. The 76ers actually got the best end of this deal.

Anyway glad this headline of trade rumors is over.

<< <i>...I can't imagine how much longer this type of quality will keep the public's interest in towns like Charlotte, Orlando, and Oklahoma City (once Durant leaves for New York, Miami, or the Lakers). It will always have the interest of the urban demographic, but I have no idea who's paying these crazy prices to go watch a game outside of the major markets >>
I live in OKC, Durant (and Westbrook for that matter) just recently signed long term extensions. It's not just major market people who pay the big prices. Here, the ticket wait list is estimated to be 5 years following another season of 100% of the games being sold out.
San Antonio is an example of a small market with a lot of recent success. The trick in the NBA is either to be one of the "haves" or to have great management (like Presti in OKC). With the new CBA, the NBA is moving closer to an NFL parity style as opposed to MLB. We'll see a different league 5 years from now due to the penalties imposed on going over the cap.

<< <i>The league is a joke. Who watches those 87-81 type games with most of the players bricking their free throws and giving a half ass effort because they're hung over from hitting the strip clubs the night before? While I agree that saying the league is about to fold is a stretch, I can't imagine how much longer this type of quality will keep the public's interest in towns like Charlotte, Orlando, and Oklahoma City (once Durant leaves for New York, Miami, or the Lakers). I don't know you ClockworkAngel, but this is subversive racism at it's finest. "half ass efforts" (lazy) "hung over" (addicts) "strip clubs" (low class) "urban" (black)
Seriously? This is 2012. Just keep opinions like that to yourself. If you want to argue the fiscal merits of ticket prices and TV ratings for the league, please do, but this is total garbage. You won't hear from me again on this.

some grew up in rough neighborhoods and had to share space with several other siblings.
others threw their bricks at the back of a barn.
they learned how to leverage the talent they possessed into a career and a secure future.
perhaps a further examination of the people who own the teams should be addressed first.
after all, they're just athletes.

The most accurate thing you said in this post is that you don't know me.
How foolish would you feel if I told you I was African American? Or would that make me an Uncle Tom? The racism accusations never cease to amaze me anymore in this politically correct world we live in. People throw that word out like it's nothing and people like you expect me to run and hide from that word, because everyone gets so scared and defensive about it, but not me.
Let's look at the post:
"Half ass efforts"- how you make the leap to racism on this is beyond me (Who is the one being racist?) The half ass efforts are coming from African Americans, Caucasians, Australians, Asians, French, Dutch, Japanese etc. The league as a whole, not just the African Americans. I grew up watching and worshiping everything Michael Jordan did on the basketball court, and LOVED watching Magic, Larry Bird (oops he's white, guess that's racist), Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler, and loving RUN TMC in Golden State. The heart these guys showed was amazing. If you, or anyone here, wants to tell me we're getting the same heart and effort from today's NBA, God Bless ya'll and you're watching a different sport than me
"Hung Over" "Strip Clubs" A little over the top maybe, but the partying these guys do is legendary. It's out there. Everyone knows it. I don't doubt it happens in every other sport, but the excess in the NBA is well documented. Again, I'm sure it's always been done to an extent, but the sense I get is that it comes first...before winning and/or being gameday ready, at least for a lot more players than it used to.
"Urban"- So I said "It will always have the interest of the urban demographic" YIKES, you're right. That's awful. Well, what if I represent the urban demographic and know that the NBA is king? I can't imagine that ever going away. Unfortunately, most NBA teams have priced themselves out of touch with most of the urban markets. Basketball's origins come from the street...street ball...urban demographics, inner city, densely populated cities. If the word "Urban" is now considered racist, I apologize.
Everything I said is absolutely contributing to decreased popularity in the sport. Did I really say anything mind blowing? I love College and am all about March Madness as the heart and effort are unrivaled, but so few players "Work" on their game. Work on their free throws. Work on the fundamentals. It's relying on athleticism, and even them turning it off and on as needed.
"You won't hear from me again on this" That's nice. Throw me under the bus, call me racist and I won't hear from you again. Stay classy.
"Keep your opinions to yourself"- I will do my best to stay out of your threads, but believe it or not forums like this are made for opinions.
Sorry to turn a very cool forum so political and confrontational, but I wanted to address it.
