Nice to see your 71 crack out Aaron cross over!

That is best chance you have got with Beckett graded cards.

I see the Clemens crossed too which is very nice as well.

Congrats a on very nice sub!

If you feel confident that it's a "9", crack & send it back in. It's worth $200.00 more as a "9".

Dpeck - I see you remembered how I had that Aaron in the BVG case. I was nervous on resubmitting but I really thought it had a fair chance at an 8 and Id rather have it in a PSA case because it sells for more. Not that I plan on selling my cards but if they day came for whatever reason, I want the most bang for my buck. I remember when I first scanned it raw, everyone said a 7 and that I was setting my hopes to high but scans on 71's always come out rougher than they really are.

Dboneesq - Thanks. That Clemens at a 9 use to sell for about $130 and as of recent after he was found not guilty, his cards in that grade were selling for almost $300. They calmed down a bit but it got a nice jump and it looks like its leveling out now at about that price ($175-200)

handyman - I like to purchase raw and then sub at at my local monthly card show, Luckily there's a few dealers that have really nice looking vintage stuff. Thats how I got that Maris raw for $30.

Well done. Given the difference in price of a 9 and a 10 on the 1986 Donruss Canseco card, how can you tell the difference in grade? Reason I ask, is that I just bought a couple of them in a collection. I'm trying to learn.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

Let me just start off by saying WELCOME BACK MIKE!! LOL We missed you buddy. Please show us your National pick ups.

Given the difference in price of a 9 and a 10 on the 1986 Donruss Canseco card, how can you tell the difference in grade?

As far as the above statement - Ive looked at my cards that are graded 9's and my 10's and you can for the most part know but its always a gamble. People look at corners all the time but sometimes forget to look at surface and centering. That Canseco almost didn't make it in the lot but it looked too nice not to throw it in. Then again, I thought the Griffeys were at least a 9 so what do I know. lol Got lucky

    Great Job!

I love the Clemens PSA 9. It really is a hard card to find due to centering T/B.

I know I am in the MINORITY here but I am not surprised the BVG crackout yielded a higher grade. I really feel BVG lately has been grading harder than PSA. At least by my submissions they have.

Did the '68 Mays come from the same dealer you bought the '68 Maris from? Where's your local show that you can submit cards on the spot?
  • Options
Thanks to everyone for the positive vibes and feedback. Although there were a few misses, the ones that counted came through and overall Im very pleased with the results.

Leadoff - The Mays came from one of our fellow board members here - Mdube16. He happens to be from my area so after a few pm's, we met up at a show and he also happened to be selling some nice stuff and so I picked that one up off him. The Maris I got about a year ago from another dealer. Those 2 cards were not part of the same set.

As far as grading goes, they were sent off to PSA. Bobby was kind enough to let me particapate on one of his subs again. No joke either, these grades popped in just under a month. I think that was a first on a 45 day special. On that alone, that could of deserved in own thread.

Nice work Foo 3112! Isn't that supposed to be 2112?

I have gotten a couple surprisingly low grades on the 89UD Griffey too. Seems it's easy to miss flaws on that one

Nice results, I'm a big fan of the '72 Clemente. On the UD Griffey if the hologram on the back is chipped or slightly off I believe you get dinged hard on the card, but I'm not an expert.

Try ten days.....I was FLOORED. I am still waiting on my $15 per card, 10 day special, yet the two big group subs popped on the same day. Go figure.

Nice variety in the sub. I never got better than an 8 on any '89 UD Griffeys I sent in. image
