What do you think about this coin? (1 Florin)

I like the design of this coin. The obverse is pretty much one of the best I've ever seen. The detail in the jewels/hair/dress is stunning. The reverse is a little different... As far as I'm concerned the color on this Florin is just right. With that being said I've never purchased a Florin so I'm not sure about a fair price. Also I'd like to know the size of the coin in comparison to u.s. series.

Thank You

Hmm, nice REAL patina with honest minimal wear. GVF would rate a price of L35 sterling or so, I warrant. Max out 50.

This coin is a "Godless florin", a one-year-type. CV probably in the $50 to $100 range. I paid $142 for one in "British gVF" condition ten years ago from a local dealer here in Australia.

As for size: 27mm, or a shave larger than an inch in old-speak; in between a US quarter and US half-dollar. Silver content is 0.3364 ounces, not quite as much as a half-dollar. The fineness is .925 (sterling).

Most coins look worse in worn condition. British Queen Victoria silver is a noteworthy exception, in my opinion. image

The design is by W.Wyon. He did some remarkable portraits. Among my favorites and I have several different pieces with this design. That coin comes in two versions, With and without initials. This one and the one in the link have the "WW" initials after the date.

I have one like this for sale on the BST in my link, if you don't get that one. It is a nice Honest coin with typical wear and scratches for an XF. $150, that's $25 off the price in the link. Both pictures are of the same coin. Different light angles. image

IMO, Bozz not trying to hurt your sales but this is an area of the market that is a bit soft and possibly and area for bargains. However, for 50 pounds sterling or 80 USD I think that is about what one would expect to find if hounding ebay. I got one the equivalent of about a "64" for 155 several years ago by doing just that.

That having been said, these Gothics are wonderful coins.

Thanks 7jags. I just sold a PCGS 64 for $460 a month ago. HA sold a PCGS 64 for $550 a couple months back. Thought this one was in the general area for the price. I will reconsider. Mine does have more detail than James. image

Nice coin, and I think the numbers Boz quotes are reflective of the "nicer" coins rising in price. IMO, coins such as the OP coin may be relative bargains in that interest may have sagged and prices as well. Don't know if I am alone in this, but it is my impression that there are FEWER collectors overall and especially of lower priced or graded bits and that high end coins are contested to higher levels now but by relatively fewer buyers.
