Best set from 2009 and 2011 (Baseball and Football)

When my kids are older, I would like to build a set with my them from the years they we're born (2009 and 2011). I would like to do a baseball and football. I was curious others thoughts on which brands are best/fun so I can buy unopened material now and have a stash for us to open in about 8-10 years.

So best?

I would build Topps base sets (with Updates, for baseball) for those years.

It will probably be the most "comprehensive" set from a given year.

You could put up boxes of other products, but I would stick with Topps for the sets.

  • Topps Flagship for both Baseball and Football.

if those sets are not going to be produced (especially baseball) continuously for the next 20+ years, the hobby will be gone and it wont matter what you select.

  • Thanks for the recommendations. Ive been looking for some Hobby Boxes from those years and will keep my eye out for some good deals.

Any reason why bowman or allen and ginter is not a recommendation? Is there too many limited insert cards, too expensive?

For the football sets, I would recommend Topps Chrome for both years. If you have the scratch, go for the refractor version of each. Base Topps for football is not worth anything.

Completing a Topps football base refractor set is a nice balance of challenge and attainability. They are tough enough to make it worthwhile pursuit, but singles have decent availability so you won't find yourself bidding $50 for a base card of some no name scrub. Also you can find some really nice raw cards since for the most part people don't grade them except for the star rookies.

I suggest looking for starter lot on ebay. You can find lots of 50-80 refractors.

Good luck, a complete refractor set looks great in a binder.
