I'll Pass on the Frosty Cold Mantle

This is ridiculous. For a second there the card looks like it was copied off of Rick Probstein's "7" he's auctioning. There's a picture of it on the BST board. I don't think it is because of the really white borders. Looks like a two year old glued the case back together.

Worst glue Job Ever

PSA will get involved, if they aren't already, as they find the graded card hobby starts to lose confidence in their product. It's not the people that frequent here that I'm concenred about. It's the fans that decide to buy a rookie card of their favorite player only to find it's not real. Sure, this is an extreme case with the most highly recognized post war card and very expensive but it's got to hit the bottom line somewhere at sometime. Honestly, when I decide to purchase a Clemente RC, it's something like this that will concern me.
  • Auction has been shutdown. Maybe somebody knows the answer, I don't, but I tend to think that if there are enough Report Items clicked, it
automatically gets shutdown. It sure seems to be the case for the last few bogus '52 Mantles
  • This kind of stuff always scares me, as I allow my son to spend a bit of his $ on ebay. Obviously he's not bidding on THAT kind of card.. but even on the $50-$75 card, it's scary to realize that there are people out there looking to basically steal money. This forum has been a big help in educating us on things to look for, though. So thanks to all you experts!
  • I have a serious question for both the board here and especially anyone sitting at PSA headquarters here. What is the liability, if any, against PSA if say I put down $40,000-50,000 and find out later its a fake? PSA needs to do something now in regards to the safety of just not this card but any card graded now or in the future. I am really wanting to spend some $$$ on a 52' high grade Mantle but with some of the fakes that are out in the market place now I'm having second thoughts and I do not trust anyone when it comes to money. Can someone at PSA please submit a response here to this question. If this is going to be an ongoing problem I'll start selling all of my PSA cards and start going back to BGS who does have the most tamper proof holder, in my opinion.

If you really want to discuss it with PSA I'd call them; maybe they read the boards, but I doubt it.

If you want a legit 52T Mantle just buy from a reputable seller with a return policy or an auction house who would never wager their reputation on a fake card-- going those routes it's not a tough card to find an authentic example of, but it is tough to find one centered with good eye appeal.
