1989 Upper Deck Pat Sheridan Possible 3rd Variation Error

Hello,

This is my first post so I will give a little bit of background. I collected cards in the late 80s and early 90s as a kid, and ended up with around 25,000 of them. I haven't looked at them in over 10 years until recently I decided to sell them. Of course I found out that cards from that era are worth nothing. I went looking on ebay for any cards that sold for a lot and found the Frank Thomas NNOF error. This got me to thinking I was obsessed with errors even as a kid. I used to always purchase packs when they first came out and I would often pay extra for an "error print run" box if there was one available. So looking for errors in the sets I came across the topps blackless thread here and have since read up on as much as I can find about variations from the years I have. Unfortunately I don't have the Frank Thomas or the Mike Witt. I did find the 1989 Upper Deck Pat Sheridan, ok no big deal. I can be oblivious sometimes and so I was showing my girlfriend some of the errors and she pointed out there was a lot more wrong than just the position on mine (duh). She also found a 1988 Topps very strange variation that I haven't seen listed anywhere but I'll post and ask you guys about that one later.

As you can see, in my version of the card the front has the position missing, ink missing from his leg, and ink missing from his name. On the back, the whole card number is missing as well as black ink missing from his stat lines.

Has anyone seen one like this before? All of the images I can find online just show the position missing on the front. I'm guessing this one is related to that error somehow.

BTW, thank you to all of you who find and post errors in these threads. You've given me some joy out of my crappy collection again. image

Looks like someone did all that with a pencil eraser
  • Way to kill my excitement, but you are probably right. I never even thought about that. Damn. Haha, oh well. If someone could delete the thread that's cool.

Welcome back to the hobby anyway. It seems we ALL come back to this hobby at some point or another. It's in our blood.
