Why isn't the time spent waiting to be logged considered part of the "turnaround time"?

I have multiple packages that are accepted by PSA but yet to be logged for about 3 weeks now.

What kind of business practice is that to let that window be completely arbitrary and unaccounted for?

I don't mind at all if they are upfront about it with the service package by adding that extra 2 weeks to the 55 days to make it 70 days. I would be completely fine with it.

Just the fact that they are selling a service that isn't at all predictable is a bit disingenuous. If it is just couple of days I get the idea of slippage, but I keep seeing myself and others talking about 1 month slippage as if it is nothing

This current practice is essentially unacceptable by virtually any other businesses.

Can you imagine dropping a package to UPS or USPS and it would sit on the queue for 3 weeks before they would process it?

Or you put an order to Amazon while it says 2-day shipping but they make you wait 3 weeks before they would process it?

I think this borders on deceptive business practices.

If it is going to take 2-3 weeks to be logged, add that to the service level timeframe instead of making it whatever you want it to be to suit your operational needs.

Yeah it’s a bit of a drag. I’m still waiting for a submission received 4/16 to be logged.

While I believe that it may still show on the site that the turnaround time begins at the time the order is logged, I have yet to have a submission this year NOT finalize within the turnaround time frame.... wait time for logging included. I'm am currently on my 10th submission of the year, not to mention 2 subs with PCGS. I don't think that I have heard many indicate that they haven't gotten their subs back within that time frame, but i could be wrong. We are all frustrated by the amount of time that it has been taking to log items but we will continue to submit because they are the industry leader, without question. From what I gather people who have submitted to BGS are waiting 7 months so I guess in the grand scheme of things, it's not all bad.

The simple answer is that it allows PSA to miss their turnaround times without you having any recourse.

I waited 11 months for my bulk BGS sub. : [ for the record...

In response to other posters over the past months discussing PSA turnaround time (TAT):

I think customers are focusing too much on the longer log time at PSA. Even if TAT was recalculated to factor in the log wait time, you would still wait the same amount of time to get your cards...which is longer than when compared to previous years. And, even if PSA hired several additional temp or full time workers, just to speed up the sort and log process, your overall order wait time would not change, as the real bottleneck is with the limited number of qualified graders. Those individuals are more difficult to train, certify, and hire. A truly high demand, low density labor market. At this point, it is what it is....until more graders can be employed or the economy tanks and people stop spending discretionary income on cards and card grading. I hope the latter does not happen. 2008-2010 sucked for the card market.

According to the the earnings conference call Joe O.says they are cross training employees to get them in the most needed areas. With the coin market soft right now and the card market hot some of the coin graders could be getting up to speed grading cards. If so, it's possible the wait times could be improved in the near future.

I'm probably in the minority but I don't really give an owl's squirt how long it takes. I like that they're being hard on cards now, or harder on them than in the past. I know for me, the gap between a PSA 10 and a BGS 9.5 is widening and I like that. Obviously, other people are in different situations and need their cards back ASAP and I totally empathize. I'm just subbing for my PC 95% of the time so I don't even check the website. I usually get the cards back before my card gets charged so it's always a surprise.

I would gladly volunteer to take a longer wait time just to help someone who is on the clock get theirs back first.

I'd agree to a point, not like I need my items back in a month or anything, but when it gets longer than 3 months, I start to get antsy about it. I'm still waiting for a small 50-card sub sent in on December special and by mid May, it feels like a long time.

Semi-related question: does PSA log/process only on weekdays or on weekends as well?

Meaning, should I check on my orders on Saturdays?
