Buying PSA graded cards
When you're buying a big card that has been graded by PSA please be careful that what you're buying is real.
For those that didn't read my other post, I got burned, and fortunately for me was reimbursed by the seller after Joe Orlando wrote a letter to me and explained the situation in detail. The front of the flip was copied and the back was real making it appear perfectly real. The card was altered but to the naked eye was close to impossible to detect.
There are fraudulent cards in old looking flips, it's just that simple. This could not have been the only one and I'm aware of something similar with a Jordan.
If you have to buy a PSA card that doesn't have a newer flip, please get it checked out first by PSA..they will gladly do this.
This unfortunately is the bad part of our hobby, and it's important to not be so trusting...again, unfortunate but true. I see so many new beautiful acquisitions in old holders and I'm just cringing.
Hopefully this post does some good for others, as I certainly felt like an idiot at the national being told I had a fraudulent card.

Is there a way they do this without sending them to PSA?
Appreciate today-

Appreciate the heads up, and glad you were able to avoid being burned; in the interest of knowing more about the bad card and holder, no frosted edges? Any of the other classic tells that something might be amiss? It's too bad we can't see an example of the photocopied label front in question. Not that it would do much good from a scan, but in person I would be able to bounce light off it and be able to see something amiss in the holder.
Can you please post pics of the fake stuff so we know what to avoid? Ty
If he posted pics of the front of the flip, from ones I've seen i seriously doubt many could tell the difference......i think PSA made huge strides with their new flip, security measures.etc...really allied my fears that were starting to grow...that was one tiny reason i left the hobby awhile back......now I'm comfortable diving back in...or at least a toe...ha
How much is it to send it in for a new flip? aren't their diff levels u can request like a bump in grade if warranted etc? I've only sent one raw card in to PSA but looks like i may have to with the older flips.
As far as getting a new flip, it's just a matter of the reholdering fee, which is pretty reasonable. If you're talking a 10k mantle, I think it makes perfect sense to for peace of mind. Not so much for a $100 card X 1000 of them, apart from wanting the new holder for aesthetics, which I also could see as desirable.
I flipped my Mantle rookie at the Natty to the new label for this reason, and crossed over my CJ so both have new labels. Will do other key cards soon - $5k+ cards.

what do you mean when you say "flip". also, why not check the seriel number on the label before purchasing?
just curious...
sold = flipped
Also the serial number is faked along with the label itself so most of the time it will match what the scam is claiming.
