They were regular modeled cars at one point in time. The Supra is from 95-98. The Eclipse from 97-99 (my years could be off by a few). you saw the movie. They found a regular ol Supra and put about $100,000 worth of modification into it. All fixed up cars start out as normal cars. The Mitsubishi was probably a GS and the Supra? Dunno. Doesn't matter. Stock Supra was almost the same as the Sport model Supra straight from the factory.
They don't make the Supra anymore, and the Mitsu is on it's 3rd generation bodystyle (movie has 2nd generation body style).

Here is some info on the Supra. Boy they put a $hit load of money into that thing. I wish I had the money to do all that.
i know another site about the eclipse... i just have to find it

FIXING UP A CAVALIER??? Save your money and get a real sports car.
A Cavalier is not an import. Nor does it have the look or juevos a Supra does. A Cavalier doesn't even qualify as a sports car with insurance companies.
No offense if you drive one but that's not a very good looking car unless you put like 4K-5K into the modifications for it. Even then it's still slow. I think it's funny to see people spend mad money to make a car look fast when it's still the same stock engine 4 banger under the hood.
The money could be better spent on an import. ( Mitsu, Integra, Civic Coupe, Etc....)
The Cavalier does not look like a good import kid. Anyone who knows anything about cars knows the Cavalier and Neon are cheap cars not even worthy of fixing up.
People who fix up Cavaliers and Neons don't have the money for real sports cars.
Not that it should matter but I've seen a few Cavalier's done up. Mostly high schooler's/teenagers. The same type of people that think a suped up Neon is a nice ride. Fact is they are both junk cars. They don't hold their value at all. And they tend to have a short life span.
I've seen too many Neon's with 80K miles that are literally falling apart. Cavalier's aren't much better.
Different strokes for different folks. You want to fix one of these cars up go ahead. It's not my money.
Yea it is funny. That movie put the whole import scene on the map.
I see some of the dumbest looking cars on the street that I can only assume draw inspiration from that movie.
It was an entertaining movie.
And I've been an Import fan since my first car 10 years ago. I can remember when Sport Compact Car was the only magazine covering the import scene 10 years ago. Now there are like 10!!
I would rather get a Trans Am and fix it up, kinda like my brothers that has the LS1 (C-Vette) engine in it
or get like a 94 Mazda RX-7 for like 15,000 and put 5 grand into it
or somethin that'll look pretty sweet and a sports car-lookin-street car

all i have is a 2000 ford zx2 (from earlier posts, i guess its just another $hitty domestic ) but im enjoyin workin on it. i guess its more fun b/c its such a challenge for me, considering a zx2 doesnt get anywhere near as much aftermarket support as your integras, civics, accords, etc. So I actually have to work on my car, much of which is done completely custom. eventually i will have some pics. gettin a complete exhaust setup, intake, and body kit all installed within the next month or so.

yea you are definetly right. actually i wish my kit cost 500.00. since my car is not as strongly supported in the aftermarket products. there are actually only 3 different kits for my car. i got the newest one and it ran me just under 1,000.00 by itself. now i am starting to look to get it painted and installed. since it is a fiberglass kit, a lot of work is gonna have to be put into it. Right now from the estimates ive gotten, i am looking at around 1700.00 to get the kit installed and painted. i guess you could call that a dent in the wallet

1996-2001 Mitsibishi Eclipse V6, CD player, moonroof, less than 80,000 miles, that is in E.C. and looks real slick.
not sure if I want a standard or automatic... I have never had an automatic before in my driving career, lol... so any of you guys know if an automatic or standard is better for the Eclipse?
I'll probably spend about 8,000-12,000 on one, and then when I save some more money up, get me a Lime Neon Green paint job, chrome pistons, chrome filters, chrome etc. , with some sweet rims, dual exhaust, spoiler, and the afterglow neon green lights that go under the car... ground effects I think is what they call them.
That would cost me about another 5,000-7,000 more or so right?

It's cool that you like the Mitsu in the movie, but to buy your own Mitsu and try to copy the one from the movie??? It's up to you, but I would try to make a more original car. Something drawn from within you, not something you saw in a movie and liked.
The Rims could run you $2500 depending which direction you go. I personally would spend most of my money on the rims. Rims make the car. A cheap brand of rims turn me off when I see a fixed up car. Ground effects usually run $1,000-$3,000 painted and installed. For those years of Mitsu you could get away with dropping the car 1 1/2 to 2 inches and getting some 35 series 18 inchers. The thing would only be a few inches off the ground.
Fixing a car up is a bottomless pit. Don't forget about insurance and the potential tickets you might get all the time from the attention cops will give you. If you go for Lime Green paint you might as well have a sign on the car asking cops to pull you over. Lime Green is worse then Red. Cops love an easy pick from a crowd of speeding cars.
I remember about insurance... but I doubt it cost as much as my brothers is... and probably about as much as my truck.
