Looks like a bunch of fake 1979 cellos and trays are coming to the market

I was looking at some 1979 Topps Football Cello auctions when I came across these completed auctions. A famous seller from Michigan sold all three lots to a buyer with 4812 feedback.

I dont collect vintage, and I can appreciate someone who likes to 'collect' wrappers, but this never sits well with me knowing what their next step may be.

This is embarrassing for kruk that they are selling these to make another $40. Just pathetic

So incredibly pathetic. I always throw away all vintage wrappers after I open packs as it's just the right thing to do...come on!!!

Never ceases to amaze the minuscule amounts people will sell their souls to the devil for. Anyone who does this is an effing disgrace to the hobby, period.

I'm immersed in the 79T FB scene and will be monitoring this like a hawk.

Wow. Pretty pathetic move by Kruk Cards. For a measly $40 for a seller with his type of volume. I could see selling one or two of the cello wrappers as there are collectors who might collect those, along with wax wrappers, but selling a large group of wax tray cellophone wrappers for a few bucks is ridiculous. There is only one thing that a buyer is going to try and do with those. Might have to watch the baseball trays also. Wonder if you can tell the difference between the cello wrappers used for footbal wax trays from the baseball wax trays or hockey or other years.

Wonder where the listing is for the cardboard trays and the wax wrappers to go along with this? Why stop there, why doesnt Kruk cards also sell a group of off center 1979 football commons, and a sealing machine.

Suggest a bocyott of Kruk Cards.
  • There's quite a lot to worry about from the year 1979. Kind of makes it tough to feel comfortable extending a financial commitment when the odds are stacked due to so much bad product being redistributed.

Thankfully, the basketball issue Topps put out that year is just a notch above Complete Suck as far as sets go, so it's still fun to collect.

I second the boycott on kruk. We all know what is going to happen with those wrappers

Yeah, it is pretty obvious what the intent is here. One or two wrappers I could understand if someone is adding them to their collection. There is only one thing someone can do with 76 wrappers. Surprising that such a big dealer would promote this kind of activity. The boycott is clearly warranted.

Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.

I've always boycotted Kruk Cards because of the ridiculously high prices. So count me in.

I see this thread being vaporized soon if history is any indication of the protection of certain sellers.

The buyer has almost 5000 feedback. This has to be a dealer we all deal with.

to play devil's advocates, if they had three separate auctions for wrappers/trays, what control do they have that one buyer is high bidder on all three auctions? don't people collect wrappers, who don't have evil intentions?

Elsipep's main ID has over 7000 feedback. This could be a second account, but I'm guessing it is not. Having two IDs with 5000+ feedback is a lot of work.

Stuff like this should be put in the trash. Man, for a large seller to sell these items is just SAD. We all have an obligation to protect this hobby.

BBCE Wrapped Football Boxes just went up!

Most of us have enough skills to detect resealed wax packs, but I wouldn't know what to look for in Cellos or Wax Trays.

.i have no prob with people collecting indiv wrappers....say, decorating the top of your bar......who's to say.....either way, i have a feeling this 40 bucks has cost him a lot more than that in the near and long term...unfortunate

If not for nefarious purposes, there should be no issue with simply using a hole punch (or similar) on each of the flaps, to ensure they're not used for re-wraps.

Really disheartening to see this stuff sold...especially by a well-known seller within the hobby.

Nobody needs that many cello and tray pack wrappers. I'm really shocked those were sold.
Love those 70's - early 80's packs and boxes...send me a message if you are selling because I am buying

I don't see any issues in selling wrappers. There are many things someone can do with these other than reseal. They have value to them just as the cards and empty boxes do. These got about $40 for the seller, which is a lot of money considering people will shell out $95 for a $100 eBay gift certificate. Not like they're selling the gum that came along, too, and even so it's really none of anyone's business and out of line to suggest that this seller is contributing to the bogus pack market or that the buyer is doing someone unethical with them. If you have invested interest in it, then sure, watch it, but coming to a message board to throw people under the bus and sling accusations is something completely different. If you collect these unopened packs and are unable to distinguish between something resealed or not, then there are dealers you can purchase from who know how to do that work for you. There are companies who can authenticate this product for you. If you buy from an untrustworthy source, or ungraded to save a few bucks for one of those eBay certificates, then caveat emptor.
  • That number doesn't matchup to his seller ID, Doug. There are others pumping this stuff out and it's been happening for quite awhile. If you've kept track of the news, there are at least a few sprouting up in the Midwest that seem to specialize in the resale of wax packs and socks. Plenty of late 70s/early 80s "unopened" product to be had. It's almost like they're recycling it as they go. On one most recently, I researched their feedback and a few of the buyers ripped them for the socks being bogus, but not the packs. Heh.

Knowing how much rewrap supplies are being dealt, I'd stand back. Too risky.

Me too, belz. 'Unopened' is just a step above autographs in the hobby fraud pecking order, even if you have 'experts' vouching for product.
